Default Not long now :)

Five days to go and I am competing in this years 30 - 130 event for the first time at Marham RAF base.

As most will know it takes place on a runway 1.5 miles long and you are timed from 30 to 130 mph. You then have the option to pull off or keep the thing on the floor to record the highest speed possible.
I believe orange cones are set at where you need to think about braking followed by two red ones that indicate if you are still on the floor the chances of you enjoying hospital food for the forthcoming month are probable.

An accurate graph has suggested that my P1 in 6th gear at 8000 rpm, running on my 18" wheels with 35 series, and current box will achieve 197 mph.
Weather I can do it in the distance is another matter? although I did time myself the other day and from 100 to 145 mph in 5th was about 5 seconds but I could not equate the time in distance.

I've been advised by FatBoy to tape the plastic trim on the front windscreen as he lost his last year at 160 mph. Many other guys I know lost there's too so I will be using plenty of duck tape.
As well as the VBox that is plugged into the cig' lighter I will have my own one on my ipod "dynolicious" Ap that I am taping on my windscreen. That way I will have an idea of what speed I am doing.

The only thing that concerns me is this. If I am doing 192 mph through the red cones, do I lift, or go for the big 197 ??

Mate, can't wait to hear about how it's gone.

And the question.............. 192................. Lift off every time.

As you previously stated, red cones = eating dinner through a straw for 6 months.

I don't think you will get anywhere near 192mph Clive, the distance you cover at them speeds is amazing and you will run out of runway, i think Dean got around 160 last year although a 1000bhp Skyline did get 204mph into a 40mph headwind

Should be a good day though and i cant wait

I realise that I will get know where near that Gramps. Will need a much longer run.

Thanks fella's.

I was only joking about the 192 thingy.
Unfortunately most do think I have something missing between my ears and in fairness they are probably correct but I'm not that stupid.

Going by what I have been told by guys that have already competed in the event I will be happy with 160 mph when considering the distance available and then to allow enough distance to stop.

Been down Marham straight on a track day in a Lotus Carlton that pulled 155mph. So you should easily pull higher speeds than that and still have time to stop. Not done the speed trials but done a few track days there, and its very well organised event. The squaddies are the worst petrol heads of them all.

Wrap up well, it bloomin cold there and really open to the elements.

Steven Darley (P20SPD) did 176mph in 1.25miles at TOTB a few years ago before they shortened the top speed run
That was with a UK 6 speed in a Classic wagon

I know because I now have said 6 speed in mine

Thanks Gents

Dont expect too much here chaps. Many of the cars competing are not everyday cars but stripped monsters so I will be pleased with 160mph.

Next year I may achieve some daft times as P2 should be finished and I will have a shed load more power and much less weight

I'll be driving the P1 like I stole it and that's about all I can do on the day.

I will need to introduce some intelligence along the line as a fellow competitor has warned me of a large grass bank at the end of the runway. He reckons is you hit it fast enough Cambridge is possible

C.J with those sort of power figures your not going to be slow. Looking on the MLR with cars of similar P-2 weight were getting very good 30-130 time's
