Default Tax and Mot

I know a car can be driven with no tax or mot if you are driving to an MOT centre, pre booked. Now the real question, does it matter how far the mot centre is? for instance, a car i am looking at in plymouth, has no tax or mot, could i drive it to my local mot centre here in worthing?

TBH sounds like you'd be pushing your luck. I can't imagine IF you got pulled over that a police officer would be too lenient. Worry is you could end up with rather a few points on your license.

I'd try working out a way to sort out getting it towed or MOT'd etc personally.

I was under the impression it was to the nearest MOT station. I may be wrong.

And can only be driven back if it passes.

But remember, it's only illegal if you get caught

IIRC,

You can drive a car with no M.O.T. or Tax to and from a PRE BOOKED M.O.T. Testing station without breaking the law.

You should drive directly to and from the test station using the shortest route too you.

The car MUST be in a road worthy condition though, so normal things like lights and tyres should be in good condition, otherwise you may still be liable to a traffic offence.

The only thing you can work with would be the statement, M.O.T. station should be the nearest (within reason) to your home If your buying the car from Plymouth! thats not near your home so book one in with your nearest M.O.T. station by your home

Make sure you advise the M.O.T. station that the car will be driven to the test without TAX and for them to make a note of it, in case they are contacted by Police for conformation.

Make sure your journey time is the shortest necessary for the trip to the station

The best course of action would be to contact the local constabulary for the areas you are driving through for there stance on things

I was told by the police that

"you can drive it to your closest MOT center if its pre booked as long as its got tax. If it hasnt got tax then it needs to be trailerd as no tax or mot technicaly invalidates your insurance and you wouldnt be coverd in the event of an accident"

Thats only what i was told mate when i phoned up to check when i was doing one of my cars but i guess it depends on the copper and how far you going.

Yeah, what about finding a 'friendly' mot place near where the car is, check some of the local forums?

Last year i drove my car for 3 months not realising that the MOT had expired, Traffic stopped me and pulled me over, all i got is a £30 fine and was told to take the car straight home. I am not saying to go and do it but i thought i would just mention it.
