You'd have thought they would address the potholed lane ages ago now, it's not exactly a good first impression! I know Scoobies are tough, but there's no need for a rally stage to get to your business...
Exposure like this is needed, that's the end of that place. |

Good job too it's a struggle to find a decent tuner at the best of times these people are supposed to look after you not mug you off like that!

Was watching the thread on MLR grow over the weekend. Sure that video will cripple their income, as well as being in the national press its on half the UK car forums too. Sounds like there's more footage of them ragging it on the public road too but this hasn't been posted (maybe the press can't publish something that can lead to a criminal driving prosecution?)
Apparently the driver has handed his notice in... bit late now, the damage to their reputation is done. |

Shocking video!!! Disgraceful that some people will treat someone else's pride and joy like that!

I wonder how many cars fitted without dash cams suffered the same treatment, maybe Scoobyclinic has had a roaring trade in shock absorbers and bushes recently...

I was reading how quickly the thread went from "omg" and "wtf" kind of comments, to then "bull****" and "liar" as he wouldnt post the video. Felt for the guy as everyone had it in for him. I guess he's the one laughing now, as it were.
The comments and now rapidly appearing photo's on pretty much all the scooby related FB groups will be damaging to their reputation even more so As said above, a road like that leading to a business thats supposed to be massive? The unit itself looked a little crappy too.

I'm thinking the same thing. I feel sorry for the people who have their cars in the workshop at the moment, I'd be so paranoid and be down there in a flash.

My Impreza came back from the MOT station with an advisory for CEL on, they were a bit taken aback when I told them the CEL was the knock warning from the Syvecs - the logs showed the test drive at 97mph and 6800rpm at 100 % throttle.
Needless to say I won't be using them again!

Happens throughout the industry unfortunately, Scoobyclinic were just 'unlucky' to be caught out.
If you knew what happens at some garages, even main dealers, it'd shock a few |

Feel for them as it wasn't the owner behaving like this and ultimately it's him/them that are going to suffer. All it takes is one knob to work for you, especially in the automotive industry and even more in the digital age and you're done for. I probably wouldn't have used them due to location and having SMD just up the road from me (ish) but personally, I wouldn't let this put me off. If it was the owner on the other hand, very different story.

There was the Shelley Motors incident last year. Well, Shelley Motors has 'retired' from the Subaru network now. This at a time when Subaru are looking to increase the number of dealers. I can't help thinking the two are linked! I do have some sympathy for the owner as it's not possible to have complete control over your staff. However, the way it was handled was poor. They tried to discredit the customer knowing full well he had evidence. ****ing idiotic move. I thought he conducted himself pretty well! |

Under what circumstances do they need to test drive a car for MOT anyway? I thought it was a static inspection only? Never had a car test driven for MOT... |

I doubt this incident will close them down, but it's sure to hurt them. In defense of the owner of Scooby Clinic it did seem like he asked to see the tape and it wasn't provided immediately, so I guess it was natural to side with his mechanics rather than the customer. But to start slagging the customer off online was rather unnecessary (and pretty unprofessional).
Sadly - and as Moley says - I have no doubt this isn't an isolated incident. We only see the rare few cases where there was a dash camera present (or where the driver from the garage ends up parking the car in a bush). How many times does this occur where the owner is none the wiser? I've had my Subaru tested at three different MOT stations over the years and they have all taken the car on the road to test the brakes: the car has never been out of earshot when they have done that though, so I know they haven't thrashed it!

Ah, assumed that was always done on the roller-wotsit thingys in the floor

Same mine has always been road tested for the brakes as my garages said being AWD it wouldn't work on the rollers
But like u I can hear the car or last time it was a young lad doing the MOT and so I asked to be in the car during the test... Maybe over the top but the mechanic understood and I left them a tip so no harm done... It's my pride and joy and I'm not gonna risk someone being a prat..

The daily drivers always go on the roller tester thing but the scoob is MOT'd via a 'friendly' garage by someone who knows the car well. Guess they skip the road test as he knows the brakes work! The scoob hasn't been on the roller test. |

So you've got one employee supposedly 'resigned'! what about the other employee in the car? both are as equally responsible........ so thats two employee's!
Then you have the manager! (so called) unprofessional to say the least with his comments throughout......thats three!!. so the problems at SC seem more ingrained than just one employee! Arguements about the release of the video make no sense at all! it was clear that unless resolved (which was so easy to do) this would escalate to probable litigation and both parties claim to have sort advice, both would have been told that evidence only needs to be provided at a certain point and rightly so, the owner of the video was holding on to the evidence until it was required that he release it. If SC had dealt with the situation better in the first instance then the video could have been seen, discussed and dealt with much, much easier. If these employee's have been with the company for any length of time, then they are 'trusted' employee's, it doesn't matter what position you work in, you represent that company and it should be reprisentation at the highest level at all times........ When you work for a 'good' company respect is a by product that becomes second nature to everyone around that company, this shows that 'respect' is clearly lacking... respect for both customers and the company. the comments about having staff outside filling the potholes are too little too late IMO, after all, how long have they been in business there and its only now that they can see them being a problem? If they did do good work then its a shame, however to not resolve such a trivial issue prior to it becoming common knowledge is beyond me........ they have done as much damage to themselves in dealing with the issue as they have with there actions in the video......... On the back of this incident...I would never recommend them or use them for anything........they appear highly unprofessional |

Hindsight is a wonderful thing... Still - if this was my car - I would have reacted the same so can't blame him.

Not the most professional of responses.
A lot of that could of been left out and a more asertive approach to remedial action should of been adopted. Paragraph 1, 2 and 7 would of been sufficient. |

I didn't post my opinion when I posted the statement as I was trying to remain objective, but this...
...summarizes the Scooby Clinic post to me. The response is lacking in professionalism and actually has an air of arrogance about it. I note as well that Kev seems to skirt round the fact that he personally attacked the car owner on a public forum. A better response could have won them some respect back at this point but, unless there is a major element of the story we are yet to hear, I presently have zero sympathy for Scooby Clinic.

Yeah, I think trying to put a spin on it and suggest they aren't bang to rights is ridiculous.
The bit that really got up my nose was this, "if the owner thinks we have done wrong the we openly apologise to him." That's not an apology. That's a statement saying "if this bloke's so sensitive as to think we're in the wrong, then we'll make a token comment in an attempt to appease him". Overall, the owner should have taken it on the chin and dealt with it. As things stand, he looks like a total **** in my opinion. |

I suspect that reply from Scoobyclinic has been dictated by their solicitor, especially as there is a very good chance it'll go legal.

That response shouts to me that no solicitor was involved. Any good solicitor would of prevented such a response. If solicitation (i use that word right or wrong only because it sounds good) was involved then a simple apology and it's in the hands of my solicitor response would suffice. |

What I do know is that I'm bored about seeing it spread all over social media, and seeing a lot of people, fellow enthusiasts, baying for blood. I don't condone for one second what has happened, the incident and the way it's been handled is very disappointing. However, like 99% of those commenting I don't know the full story..... especially what happened after Scoobyclinic were made aware of the incident, so untill things become clear I won't be commenting negatively regarding either the Impreza owner or the Clinic. (Although i will say the mechanics actions are inexcusable) The biggest disappointment in the whole matter is seeing how a lot of people have reacted to it. The fact that many people may end up being out of a job and unable to support their families due to the actions of one colleague seems to amuse a few people who have no idea of details, yet throw accusations about. I sincerely hope none of those people are in a similar position where they are faced with loosing a job through no fault of their own. |

As i posted on SS...
Wow. Took a while to read through this but chipped away at every spare moment as the drama unfolded. Not that surprised at the incident... I think we all suspect that a lot of garages have bad practices and attitudes towards customers and this just confirms that. I just hope my judgement is good in relation to the places i take my car to, as i would be livid if this was my car. (I will be looking into purchasing a dashcam though, regardless) I am however, completely stunned at the posts/responses from the garage in question. Their final response on the subject is, to me, more damaging than the incident itself. No matter how poor you may choose to conduct your business behind closed doors, when something like this happens and the 'world' is watching (and you have "30 years experience" running said business) how the hell can you not have the foresight and intelligence to handle this better!? I know very little of them as i have never dealt with them, but from a neutral perspective going into this, i'm astonished that he has managed to build his business to this size with that attitude. Maybe something has changed of late, but as said, i cannot comment on this, only on what i see before me now. On a side note, its also dissapointing to read some of the views on MLR relating to Scooby owners. But reading the thread on ScoobyNet, its not that hard to see how their views are formed. Well done tbtstt for chipping in and pointing out that the masses on there do not represent all of us! |
