Default SES 2018 Trip to the Ring. 25/5/18 to 28/5/18

This years trip is from

Friday 25th for a four night stay returning on Tuesday 29th

We have decided to stay at a different hotel this year, I have managed to negotiate a price of 65 euros per room per night for a twin bedded room which includes breakfast.

We are staying here

The hotel also has space for us to store tyres tools etc. in a secure cellar.

I have provisionally booked 10 twin rooms, a deposit will be required to secure your place.

The deposit of £50 needs to be paid no later than Friday 6th April..

Payments to be sent here:
payments@southeastscoobies.co.uk

Eurotunnel fare at the moment is £122.
Departure 25/5/18 @ 07.50.

Do not forget if you have low ground clearance to book in "over 1.85m"

I know it's early days but what times are we using the tunnel, as they are very cheap at the moment (61 pound each way) as we know prices start to go up the closer it gets to the date.....

Just a tip, for those of you that shop in Tesco, they always do 3 x clubcard vouchers on Eurotunnel. Gives you a chance to save them up, we normally end up with about £35 of vouchers which equates to most of the ticket

Can't really justify it this year which is a shame as would like to try the new hotel, need to throw some money at the Scoob this year so it's ready for next time.

Looks like ADAC aren’t taking on non German residents anymore, looks like you might be able to renew existing policy.

I saw this yesterday on a trackday group on facebook too, apparently ADAC have changed their policy on 1st Jan 2018 and all new customers now need to be a German resident with a German registered car.

It appears that auto-renewals will still go through, but if you need to change your details and phone them up, it will flag it with them to stop renewal. So don't change your details
Lots of people on there finding out the hard way.... if the policy has expired, it cannot be renewed as well, so auto-renew is the only way to keep it going it seems...

On a side note, I've always got my European breakdown through Moley. OK, it doesn't include the Bongard tax for getting recovered off the Ring itself, but otherwise its all good

I have to phone to pay for renewal, hmm looks like Moley is my next option. I am not sure how long the Ring is going to be a viable option as if you have a bad day it is getting to expensive, especially as insurance is s now impossible to get.

Been bullied into it by Big E. Childcare depending we’ll be there for around 11am on the Saturday morning. We can’t get the tunnel until at least 8/9 on the Friday due to work so will head over early Sat. Or may go for Friday night but stop nearer Calais.

Unfortunately is going to be a no show from me...

I am unable to get the Friday or following Tuesday off work so that has pretty much scuppered any plans to attend, folk at my work love to turn the bank holiday weekends in to 5+ day breaks and all got there before I did.

Highly unlikely for me too, again. If it had been the week before I'd more than likely have been able to go. But as Gino says, if my grandmother had wheels she would have been a bike..... :-/

Trust me steve - nobody needs to see them! Otherwise the accident rate at the ring would increase four-fold!

I'm still working on Lucy regarding this. I'm not winning at the moment.

I know Chris and Rachael wanted to go but his engine blew on a mapping session last week.
Now there is a big argument about who is responsible so his may not be fixed by then
.

Oh dear. Road mapping or on the rollers?

Either way, its pretty much always down to the customer to fork out for all costs if it goes wrong, I'm surprised if he didn't have to sign a waiver saying that first... the mapper has to get to work on a car he doesn't know, doesn't know the internal condition/history of the engine and the quality of the workmanship done on it in the past. Not saying that there was any issues with Chris's beforehand, but the mapper can't really be liable in my eyes if this happens. Part of the risk of tuning cars beyond standard imo.

it was on the road.
The mapper has taken partial responsibility and offered to rebuild the engine and Chris is paying the extra for the forged parts.
That was resolved just now and I think he has had a fairly good offer there

Wow that's very surprising.... the standard 2.5 blocks usually have a problem at some point so if Chris gets it forged at the same time then that's a right result for him.

Any one else interested??

If you need to know anything please ask.

It is not all about the Ring you don't even have to do a lap,

the Ring is situated in a fantastic area, with brilliant driving roads.

I am currently waiting for a reply from the hotel, with regard to how many single rooms they have, fingers crossed they have enough?

I would imagine they have rooms at the inn..

You will need a Paypal account - if you don't then have one, then sign up to get one at paypal.co.uk. You link it with your bank account and then can send money to another paypal account.

I've been 3 times now, once as a passenger, once with these guys in the Scoob and then went to the same area again with my wife for a long weekend in the Passat. It's so easy you'll wonder why you never did it before. There will always be the risk of car problems no matter how old or new the car so don't let that worry you, people break down abroad all the time and get home plus in this case you're in a group so there will be other people to help out. As for the ring itself, just treat it as a brisk drive on a country road but without the worry of someone coming the other way and keeo an eye on your mirrors the whole time, those locals appear from nowhere and in what usually looks like much slower machinery.

You'll love it.

I've been trying to avoid making this post but it looks nailed on now.... but we're out this year I'm afraid. Claire can't get the time off work and I've been looking at options re: coming anyway with a mate, but my oncall rota at work and other holidays already booked in my team just seem to have screwed it up for me this year.

Bit gutted because its the best trip of the year, and I've not missed one in 8 years. But it just doesn't work for us this time around. We'll be back next year for definite

Everyone is a little nervous on their first trip, the trip is not all about the ring.

There are some brilliant roads around the whole area and not a pot hole in sight have a look at some of the past pictures .

If I could I would move there although this is my 10th SES trip I still get a buzz..

I guarantee you'll have great time, if you have any questions please either post up here or message me..

As E said, there is a lot more to the trip than visiting the Nurburgring. It's a stunning part of the world. The roads are great, food & drink is great, you'll love it there.

As “E” says - everyone is nervous on their first trip.
My first trip was very nerve wracking - I’m not a “track-mad” driver so was a little apprehensive. The convoy down through to the ring is great fun - little blasts on the motorways and autobahns and swapping positions as u travel down.
The ring itself is what u expect - except u make it what u want! I went round by no means the quickest, but yet quick enough for me! Two laps on two days was enough but that was my choice. Great fun and good experience!
Then the day trips out and driving through the lovely German roads (and tunnels!) are truely wonderful!
You will be in very safe hands with everyone going and “E” will look after you! He’s great with newbies (like he was with me!).

It's a great trip and the ring is only a few hours a day at most and that includes spectating as well as driving!

We're taking the Hearse so don't expect fast laps from us! But we should be ok on the Autobahn on the way there - the boot will be too full of beer on the return leg!

I've got a couple of friends who want to come along (Toby guy who came along to the last Brek meet). He used to have a wagon which he modified and I think he had some JDM WRX thing in the past - has just brought a 172 Clio for such events - should be registering soon - I hope.

Very much looking forward to it.
