Default Verdict on 20% Meths

Had my first opportunity of seeing what the 20% Meths felt like this morning as I had a site meeting in Basildon and decided to take the P1.

I'm obviously not talking Track Day driving as the roads were occupied but I had the odd opportunity of getting in the boost range and there was a slight increase in performance and it felt more responsive however not heaps more. I was shifting really early at 5500 due to noise levels that seemed to be distracting other motorists, but an increase of acceleration was evident.

On the return trip I had about about half a mile of empty lane in front of me so leaving it in 6th I slowly built up and at exactly 4 grand (105mph) I floored it. First thing I noticed out the corner of my left eye was a red light on the Defi Turbo boost gauge (which never normally happens). The turbo is set at 2.1 bar and this proved the Meths made a difference as it shot past that causing the red light, so I lifted off power. Not sure what bar it was because the needle went as far as it could and there is no reading at that point. (may need a gauge with readings up to 3.0.

It proved a waste of time really so I am looking forward to getting it on the next track day, hopefully before xmas.

The Launch Control is totally mad and very advisable to you guys. I can test this properly at the next track day too.

I tried it last week at home but the Mrs became slightly concerned when I nearly set fire to the front garden.

I believe I upset a neighbour too, as she has mentioned to someone that her dog hadn't left it's kennel since the Launch Control test four days ago, so I will have to wait until I am at the track before I can use it properly and I will let you know.

,yeah,it does smell lush.
The thing that worries me is 'Anger' was telling me that it seperates in the tank in a few days so really you need to end your journey with an empty tank.
He seems to manage it ok,and i am hungry for power, just a little worried about the possibility of lump damage due to seperation.
On another note,Anger showed me a pic of your car on surreyscoobies yesterday,as i was wondering where to put my number plate.
We share the same splitter and it looks really good on your car,so have gone down this route rather than the square evo style.....nice 1.....

That shouldn't be too much of a problem Rat as Olly mentioned to me that I just need to make sure there is at least 20% Meths to be on the safe side when running in Map 2. If there is 25% Meths that will be ok.

It's ok to run with Meths in the tank if I have it on "Map 1" which is the map for V Power.
The danger is having "Map 2" selected when there is no Meths in the fuel system. So I will run until the tank is virtually empty then fill with V Power and select Map 1.

I am not suggesting that Anger is wrong, but I have not heard anything relating to fuel separation. I would have assumed that if Matt/Olly thought it would prove an issue they would have told me when considering how much I have spent on the motor.

Interesting......yep,understand what you mean about the map order.
If theres one thing ive learnt about these cars, its that the fuel guage under reads the amount of fuel.....according to my book the guages arnt 'linier' and states that empty is around quater full, quarter is half and so on.
I can well believe this because in my old WRX that had the old 50L tank,it stayed on full on the guage for ages, then dropped.
Also even when it was on less than empty i could never fit more than 40 L in the tank.
But as you say,if you do the map order correctly,it should be no probs.
Does it run a little rich if there is more than meth dregs left of V power map?
Have you got some spec on your car on here (ie projects thread)
Mines a built lump too and would be interested in what you've done.
Cheers dude.....

I can understand that Anger. I have heard Methanol is a lot more corrosive than pump.

Won't argue with SMG
