Default SES - Tunnel run with a difference - Sunday 31st October

Hi everyone
BIG E and Baz have both recently raised the idea of another tunnell run.

Last year we decided to do an early morning run into London to take in a number of tunnels and go to a selection of london landmarks for a photo shoot, finishing at the Ace cafe for breki.

It worked really well,we managed to park and get photos in front of:
  • Tower Bridge
  • Westminster Bridge
  • Big Ben
  • Houses of Parliament
  • London Eye
  • The Mall
  • Buck Palace
  • Wembley Stadium
We also got plenty of videos of everyone playing in the old noisy brick tunnells.

The date is to be the morning of Sunday 31st October
I will post the exact route and times at a later date.

First come first served basis for this one. Limited to 14 cars Max.

In the past weve at the small industrial estate just off the M25 on the A20.

A20 the road that goes to Brands Hatch from the M25 @ Jnc 3.

ps. But could be completely wrong as this down to me.

link isn't working above, but i think Ian's thinking of somewhere off J3 of M25:

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&so...4,0.01929&z=16

Makes sense to meet on the entrance to the B2173 (hopefully google maps will keep the location marker on the link above ) as we'll be heading towards Dartford from there

Well done everyone.
yes also to Big E's meeting place, should suit everyone as its on the way for all i belive.
I will post up the route, landmarks and aprox times.
Please anyone that wants to see some other sights let me know,i know my way around very well,so can take in other sights if people wish.

Just to make everyone aware this is a very early start.
Also does everyone want to do the dartford tunnell first, its no problem, £1,50 each way unless we do it before 6am.

Personally not bothered about the Dartford tunnel.

I my opinion previous years have been spot on, (but I would say that)

If we do Dartford tunnel it will delay getting to Central London and the longer we leave it the busier London gets.

Could we possibly do the underpass that goes under Hyde park corner?

and we have our 14 names - if anyone else wants to come we'll start a reserve list in case of any drop-outs.

I vote we skip Dartford as well, maybe go down to Westferry circus and take some piccies around Canary Wharf instead?

Yep, thats the Westferry Rd i think, not been there yet tho.

Shame the Ace Cafe is being rubbish, they were good a couple of years back when we only took 4 cars. Guess theres not a lot of room out the front for 14 of us!

Bit of a late response but nobody else has answered so i'll try!

Not sure why the number 14 was chosen (as opposed to 13 or 15 ) but Martyn picked it. As he's the one sorting the route and being our tour guide, i'm more than happy to go with that

Too many people and it'll be a pain trying to keep the group together. Also moving this over to SES events as its now being organised as such

Thanks Steve
Guys the only reason for limiting it is that it is very hard with any more to get the photos, which is really one of the main reasons for the run.

Even at 07.00 in london the police are very quick to move you on from parking outside Buck palace, houses of parliament, the Mall etc
To be honest 10 is really the max but having looked at the photos from last year i think we could do two lots of 7 at most stops.

Now i am more than happy to do a comprehensive route description, post codes, maps etc if someone wants to lead a 2nd group, but trust mew there is no way that you will get any photos done with bigger numbers,Only because the police moving you on. Which i think you will agree is not surprising when you think of the places we are parking outside.

So if someone with a sat nav fancies giving it a bash, i will of course help them.

Fortunatley i can do it with my eyes shut, having driven around the poo hole for way too long !

Agreed big fry up and mug of tea needed.
I know a place right near Wembley stadium which will fit in perfect .
I am trying to find it to see if its open when we are going.

I will be working on the route over the next few days.

Baz
I am still trying to get an answer from a couple of cafes that i have used when i was working at Wembley Stadium,no one wants to pick up the bloody phone.
Trying to confirm that they are open.
There is a car park just across the road from the one i have marked on the map.
If i cant get confirmation then we will just head down the road to the Ace Cafe.

guys as a matter of interest are you hitting the barbican tunnel?
we did saturday night, its awesome...................but the locals have lost the plot about the noise!( mind you it was 444 cars)they really are hitler like there so bear it in mind,we have heard that they have poured paint stripper on the ground during runs hoping it flicks up onto other tunnel runners!!!!!!

I cant even think which tunnel that is.

i assume Simons talking about Beech St, runs under the Barbican and comes out opposite Barbican tube station. (its not on our list of tunnels yet).

not worried either way. its another one to add and i can't see the locals getting too upset about a small group like ours, but if its out of the way then not the end of the world either....

Final times to be confirmed but i think last time everyone met at M25 J3 about 6am, so it'll probably be a very early 5:15am at Pease Pottage?

Martyn's sorted the route out so i'm sure he'll confirm what time we should all meet at J3.

5.15am at PP sounds right to me Steve, and we will meet everyone else at the other place at 6am unless it changes.

Then round to J3 of M25 for 6am.

If we are planning the Blackwall Tunnel, I have heard that there may be closures?

Northbound Blackwall Tunnel is closed until 8am Sunday morning, but the crossing is closed to only Southbound traffic. Northbound traffic is allowed to use the Southbound tunnel so we shouldn't have any problems?
