Time to take the wing off to make it easier to make a nice neat job of cutting the hole in inner wing.
I used a starret cutter, then filed down sharp edges.Just needs some edging strip to finish it. ![]() Intercooler hose in place, A bit of white smootherite around the hole edges to stop the rust ![]() The pille of bits are growing, going to weigh all at end of job. ![]() Intercooler and pipework finished, appart from the Mikalr clamps,As yet to arrive. ![]() Tone I have ordered a load of blue silicon pipes/hoses for vacumn and water pipes. I have now relocated the ABS pump electrics, there is plenty of cable on the two main looms, but one power feed needs extending, easy job as it has a ring terminal on the end. I moved the electrics forward by about 1 1/2 inches, just needto make a little plate to attach to the exisiting bracket. So in the end not a drama as i thought it would be. Will put some pics up once finished. Last edited by C. J.; 28-08-2009 at 07:43 PM. |

My brother CrowSti came around to assist in hole cutting, he was a very good panel beater/sprayer for some years. So far the biggest pain has been the number of bolts that have sheared off due to not being moved for years. Having to drill them out and re-tap the thread. |

looks good is it an ap, fitted one to my eldest girls made a huge difference, i found that you have to cut a fair bit out the inner wing also for the hybrid make, i fit split pipe round the edge just in case it rubs enywhere.

Todays up date.
Intercooler finally all connected back up. Headers & Downpipe back on - Had to have the flange on the headers skimmed as it was slightly concave causing a blow. Induction kit fitted Something i was not expecting was that one of rad cooling fans strikes the intercooler pipework, had to remove fan and shave about 4 mm off the outer edge of each blade. Just a few of the pipes to change now, Boost pipe to air box is too short to reach induction kit, expansion tank hoses are going to be replaced with samco to match the others and vacumn hose is too short. Remaining jobs are: Cam belt kit Replace rear drop links Change all oils Trip to power station JOB DONE Oh and not forgetting injectors,Power FC and mapping by Scott ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by C. I did trim a fair bit off both sides, one prob i had was that i am using the Mikalor Supra hose clamps and they are so bulky that you have to position them just right so they dont foul the bumper anywhere. Mind you the clamps are top quality. |

I decided to do the cambelt myself,Replaced all idlers ,tensioners, crank shaft oil seal,Alternator and air con belts.
Have done many a twin can cam belt, but this was 1st flat four, bit of a bitch, after taking the belt off and putting back on for about the 5th time, i got it spot on. Turned the key for 1st time since November. All sounds sweet, not driven yet as got to now polish it up and fit all panels ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by C. J.; 28-08-2009 at 07:44 PM. |

Doing belt for 1st time is just one of those things, you certainly learn after you keep putting the belt on and off.
I kept getting one pulley just one bloomin tooth out, very frustrating. The trick is to gently hold the belt on one pulley with a clamp then work away from that pulley. You aslo need a good wide vice to squeeze the tensioner back up. Toughest bit was getting the bloomin crank pulley off to get access to the oil seal. Just seemed silly not to do water pump, thermostat and oil seal whilst it was appart. The belt i took off was nearly 7 years old but looked perfect, mind you had only done about 30k if that. |
