Hello chaps, quick question. Will a sti version 5 intercooler fit straight onto a 99 uk turbo 2000 using the hoses already on there or will I need new hoses to install it?
I dont know anything about intercoolers so just asking before buying. So all advice is welcome and appreciated ![]() Cheers Si |

Not sure there is any difference to what you already have

the i/cooler is basicaslly the same just silver rather than the std black on the UK/WRX cars.........
the advantage is underneath where instead of the convoluted plastic turbo pipe, the STi has a cast alloy and silicone link pipe which flows better........

All I was trying to figur out was if its just the intercooler itself, would you be able to just swap out the main unit for the sti one? Thanks for the advice guys. I was hopeing that Crowmans comment was correct as well.

the i/cooler core will swap out for a std WRX/UK one very easily as its the same unit (just different colour), as i mentioned above its the pipework underneath that is the most important part/upgrade............
obviously they look nicer ![]()

Agree they are the same size.
If you fit samco (other hoses are available) turbo hose's for the WRX/UK intercooler, they are actually a slightly larger bore and better flow then the STi ally link pipe. An image of and STi8 link pipe Vs MY99 WRX/UK samco can be seen on my DIY STi 8 intercooler thread (note thisw refers to the STi 8 intercooler which is larger, but you should get the idea) http://www.southeastscoobies.co.uk/v...hread.php?t=17 Samco Y-Piece Vs STi Originally I fitted a 90 degree elbow to the Sti Alloy Y-piece, as recommended by alot of other people that have done this. However, this did not fit too well and caused the Samco to twist and kink slightly. The problem appeared to be that the MY00 Samco bends slightly upwards and sits closer to the Intercooler. I thought about attacking the standard MY00 Samco in order to get a better fit. But.....when inspecting the 2 types of induction pipework I noticed that the size/spacing looked the same between the STi Alloy Y-Piece and Samco Y-Piece. Infact the Samco appeared leass restrictive. Hey presto a quick swap and the MY00 Samco and Alloy fitting are on the STi Cooler and looking like they will fit. 1. Swap MY00 Samco Y-Piece onto STi Intercooler…..then place STi 8 Alloy Y-piece on Ebay ![]() 2. Adjust Samco Y-piece slightly (see photo) to provide a better fit when attaching to Turbo. Although the Samco is not tight up against it’s preferred marking, there is plenty of material to byte on with the Jubilee clips. Samco Y-Piece Swap Note : Image shows MY00 Samco Y-Piece fitted to STi Intercooler. STi Alloy Y-Piece is on the floor ![]() Samco Y-Piece Adjustment ![]() |
