Default cod - black ops what do you think?

Just played it and its good although laggy.....its just doesn't seem much of a step up over the old versions....I only have it on Pc so this might explain the lag!

no where near as good as mw2 for the online content. single player was great though, but i'm pretty sure i'll be chopping this in for gt5 in a couple of weeks.

Well...Its sold 27% more copies than MW2 over the first few hours. I had 400+ people in at Midnight for it.

Currently the biggest and fastest selling game of the year.

GT5 now has a date ( again ) Weds 24th Nov. Even the signature version has gone down by £20 already too.

I must say from the moment i fired up black ops on the xbox i wasn't very impressed at all!!!

Im not really sure what i was expecting to see but it feels like they have produced a copy of "Call of Duty World at War 2" and World of War was out before Modern Warfare 2.

The on-line seems too customization based with every one using the same gun and kill streak reward set ups ( bloody rc-xd controlled car bombs ) and the fact that you can vote on what map is played next or previous means that all the teenagers want to play over and over again is the poxy Nuke Town map! random grenade overdose.

A plus side on the multi player is that there is no tactical re-spawn or very few areas to snipe from, but players still love the point blank sniper shot with the use of no scope 50 cal. tut tut.

The story lines ok but again the graphics are disappointing in areas i.e close ups of enemies faces look like something from PS2 and the colours of buildings and scenery are colourfully tacky in places. But don't get me wrong there are some good bits just not enough of them that make you go oooh and arrr.

I know its only a game and not a piece of art work but it just annoys me that they have had time to make a game that should knock modern warfare 2 into next week and they haven't. And i personally think that most people who have bought it will play for a few months then will return back to MW2 for multi-player sessions. I KNOW I WILL!!!!!!!!!!

Im not saying don't buy it just don't believe all the hype.

Ive finally got round to playing it now too, and I know what you mean. It just dosent feel as 'polished' as MW2 was, I know it was a diffrent dev team, but as you say, they had 2 years to get it better.

At least the guys behind MW1 and MW2 no longer work for Activision, and have started a new company called Respawn, for EA!

It also suffers from 'you havent played it from day 1, so your ****' . I just couldnt even compete with all the level 45+ already, with all their fancy weapons.

Anyway..for us car nuts, new Need for Speed on Friday, with a very clever Autolog system, which lets you know if someone on your frinds list has beaten one of your track times.

oh...and Kinect, its awesome! I rule at Dance Central!!

Thats exactlly the phrase or meaning i was looking for "not polished", it certainly isnt!!

And i didnt know about the guys no longer working for activision so that explains alot!!! I shall be very interested to see what respawn produce in the future.

I'm more a single player (story mode) fan and I really like the way its all put together (clearly Treyarch has played Black at some point, because there are a lot of similarities in the presentation). I prefer the SP content to MW2, but the final product doesn't seem (or look) quite as polished as MW2 (in my opinion). I would personally say its worth buying, but not at £45.

I still think the king of FPS (though maybe not to everyones taste) is Killzone 2 - can't wait for the third one next year!

NB: The "hidden" games in the Black Ops menu are pretty cool!

My thoughts? Keeps the teenage son quiet and has also made the rolling stones cool in his opinion - he now requests 'let it bleed' be played in full in the car instead of sulking and plugging himself in to his ipod. 10 outa 10 from me

Btw...the last serious gaming i did was 'maziacs' on spectrum sinclair

Hi ya Nige how ya diddling?
I've not made any final decisions yet and i would love to go for sure, but i now have a little 7 month old boy who's blinking hard work ( sometimes ) and its harder now to plan things.
Plus theres the side of a decent ring car, i don't think my 1.6 auto focus would cut the mustard.
Hows the evo going?

I had a quick go at work on GT5, random track with the New STI. Graphics were awesome, even on a crappy old plasma.....but

There was absolutely no feeling /sensation of speed, and no damage? I could just 'Bonk' of the crash barrier and carry on, I know it was only a quick go. but I was a little disapointed.

so so disappointed with GT5, 5 years in the making and a year delayed and what a load of poo!

Seriously, the load times are a blooming joke for the tracks as it wants to install everything on your machine first before you can play em, and viewing the cars in the menus is just plain irritating.

Its impossible to play on line and Sony have recommended you play without connecting to the net to prevent glitchy play and bugs they need to sort out (WTF!), some of the scenery is 2D and looks like it came from GT2 close up, shadows are jaggy and dog toothed, and the GT menu for you to navigate around looks a mess!

Then theres the crash damage or lack off!!!!!!!!!! advertises it on the box but nothing happens in the game. have read some where that it appears later on in the game????? Yeah righto.

If you haven't bought this yet i really wouldnt bother and would stick to FORZA 3 or buy 4 early next year (think its out April time).

Sorry for the rant but its just plain disappointing, some of my fellow work mates have already traded it in!!!!.

Me, well im gonna spend my time playing black opps, GT5 can take the back seat.

Have to say I'm in complete disagreement with majorscooby; the more time I put into GT5, the more impressed I am with it. You need to put a least 5 hours play in to start to open the game up, but most of the GT games have required a serious time investment to get the best out of them and GT5 is no exception.

The karting in GT5 is brilliant fun, the rally is the strongest its ever been in a GT game (its still not quite as fluid as DiRT 2, but then its far more realistic than DiRT 2), plus the NASCAR is a great extra as well. I haven't got as far as the licensed D1GP and Super GT content, but I'm hopeful thats going to be as strong.

The initial installation is a bit of a pain - with the online update you are looking at about an hour before you can start playing - but it saves a lot of time when playing the game, so its worth sitting through. The damage is an odd one, as a lot of reviews have mentioned the same thing. I see a number of comments this morning on various sites indicating that the level of damage available to the player is proportional to your "A" Spec progress though, with full damage being unlocked at level 40.

This may be BS and I'm not at that high a level to verify if its true or not, but its a bit annoying to the casual player if it is true as it means you need to play a lot of game to utilise all the features listed on the box. As before though, its a GT game and it requires a serious time investment. If you want a quick driving fix, play Need for Speed!

I am in agreement that the online is broken, the add on to actually give online features was an 11th hour addition and it clearly wasn't properly tested. For me personally, GT is all about offline play so I'm not bothered about the online content, but I can understand that would be annoying for people who are interested in that side of things.

My only real complaint with the main game is the split of cars between "standard" and "premium". The premium cars look incredible: full interior, crisp exterior and the full range of modifications and cosmetic tweaks are available. The standard cars vary somewhat though. I personally would have rather seen 300 - 400 premium cars, all in full detail, rather then bulking the game out with lots of not quite so good cars.

You're welcome, glad someone actually read my little monologue!

As I say the game isn't flawless and, I'll be honest, I didn't enjoy the first couple of hours that much. There is just so much in game (and everything is so poorly signposted) that the first couple of hours are a bit overwhelming. I also made the same mistake that I've made with every GT game when playing it in career mode: did some races, won some cars, sold the cars to buy and mod an Impreza, then realised that I needed the cars I'd won to do other races in the Amateur Class!

Something that has just occured to me is that, in my opinion, GT5 has more appeal (and its general direction) seems more towards existing fans of the series rather than new players. It seems to be newcomers to the series who aren't as keen, whereas those who have played previous GT games are getting into it more.

Funnily enough its Black Ops that has disappointed me in the long run. After all the hype that it was going to blow MW2 away its certainly good, but it lacks the polish of the Infinity Ward CoD games. The more you play it the more rough edges you notice (in my opinion anyway).

I'm looking forward to Killzone 3 to take the FPS crown now. I still rate KZ2 above any of the CoD games, so hopefully 3 will be as good, if not better.

As I say GT5 is slow to get going and, even at the stage in the game I am now, I still keep finiding new things in the options. I got to the Super GT events whilst snowed in last week and that has been the pinnacle of the game for me thus far - tearing round Suzuka in the middle of a pack of race spec GT-R's is just superb. Pity there aren't more Super GT events in game, but still brilliant!

There are a few of us on Surrey with GT5, so there has been a bit of car swapping going on to help each other out with passing events, so feel free to crash the GT5 thread if you want any assistance!

just got this for my b-day. (2day, but shhh, I kept it quiet !!!)

No lag, excelent graphics on full settings (I Built my PC a few years ago n chose components wisely hence no lag).

Single player only took me 7hrs game play time though which was a little dissapointing, but, its the multiplayer that makes this game worth buying.

Gotta admit i did expect the game to be better than it was cuz of all the hype, but still a good game anyways n deffinately worth the money.

Best thing is its brought dedicated servers back so you can actualy choose what map you can play on without relying on some other twats ping! This alone makes it better than MW2. Feel sorry for console players who dont get the dedis!

thats something i notoced when first playing Farcry 2 (Another exelent game)
i used 2 get crap pings when playing people on servers based in america, but because my PC was powerfull enough to run the dedicated server application and the game at the same time, i could benefit from runing my own server and having the best ping in game (Usualy between 15 and 40).
willl try this on COD when i get round to it
