Default MOT History Check

just stumbled upon this. it would appear you can do a free on-line MOT History check on any car providing you have the registration and current MOT certificate or your log book reference:-

http://motinfo.direct.gov.uk/interne...ry-Request.jsp

I just did it and it shows some MOT history. Firstly it shows if the current MOT certificate is genuine. Then it shows past MOT History including garage name and phone number where the tests were done, what it failed on, any advisories, or just "Pass" if it went through with no problems.
It also shows recorded milage which could help you spot a car thats been clocked.
It even showed on my car that it used to have an "L555" registration.

Definately worth adding to your favriouts. next time you buy a car, its a free check you can do and any genuine seller shouldnt have a problem giving you the registration and MOT certificate number so you can do the check

They do look a bit naff, don't they. Not seen a proper one yet but from the PDF below they look very easy to forge (scan, edit advisories out and re-print!).

our car's MOT status will probably be on a police computer though just like our insurance so if we drive past a traffic cop n have a fake one, we will probably still get in trouble.

Oh yes, certainly. You won't get away from being tugged by ANPR for sure. I was thinking more about people being crafty and removing Advisories on MOTs to help with selling it etc.

I'm guessing from the PDF sample which has 'plain paper' in the filename, its designed deliberately to not have anti-forgery clever stuff on it..... reduce costs?

Its all about cost, talking to a friend of mine that owns a garage. It saves the M.O.T from sending 4 different pads out to every MOT station in the country because now they have to supply their own plain paper.
