anyone lawnmower savvy??

hi all anyone have any knowlege on petrol mowers? i have a briggs and stratton 4hp engine that needs lookin at! fires up but can get it to rev, runs lumpy and need to sort it! cash for repairs plus penty of tea n coffee!!

Mine was similar, would star ok but ran like it was running out of fuel, really lumpy.

Turned out it was gasket under the carb, the part was about £4 and took around 5 mins to change. It had a small slit in it so the new one looked identical but the engine ran really well after the change.

I own for a Big Landscaping Company, so yes.

That engine is used in most mowers, so quite common. Check all the cables, the srping on the carb. Empty the fuel tank, and re-fill with clean fuel. Take out ther air filter, normally gunked up with old grass cuttings. Spark plug clean off blah blah. These engines are almost bomb proff. 90% of our customers have a Hayter of some sort, harrier, hawk etc etc, all the same engine, and will very little maintenance they go on forever.

Done that gasket on mine as well, also check the o ring where the carb goes on the inlet.

cheers fellas!! will have a butchers! its a olec mac worth keepin it only cost £40 spare or repair! the choke springs? looked like they been messed with and choke dont seem to do much!! the bit you can rev next to filter moves and when moved to rev it cuts out! il have a go at cleaning it and sorting a gaskit! also when put on its side oil pisses out this normal? cheers
