Default Clutch problem

My girlfriend's non-turbo 2002 impreza clutch has developed a problem I was hoping you could help with. It happened the night before I went into hospital for an op so I can't even get out there to have a look under it!

Over the past few months the clutch pedal had been getting stiffer and the bite point getting higher. The last time I drove it I actually said to her "Jesus how long has it been like this?" The bite point was right at the top and it was difficult to get into 1st and reverse. Something obviously on its way out but it wasn't slipping at all. Maybe the slave cylinder I thought?

Then the last time she tried to drive it, it would go into gear but lifting the clutch does nothing. In fact you could put it easily into any gear without the clutch pedal down at all and at any rpm. No weird noises. No attempt to bite. Nothing. It's like the clutch is stuck permanently disengaged. The pedal moves up and down (stiffly) but does nothing.

If like to know what I might be looking at before booking it into a garage.

Cheers
