Name that engine
Hi guys,
I bought my first subaru 2days ago and the guy I bought it off said that it had an sti engine put in a couple of years ago. Being new to this type of engine he could have told me anything. From what I can see from Internet pics it looks like a standard wrx engine, I've looked through the service history and on some of the service receipts state that it's an EJ205? Does anyone know where I can locate an engine number on the engine itself? Here's a few pics. Any light shed upon the situation would be greatly appreciated Apologies for the head tilt |

Short block or long block did he say ?
As it's not avacs heads so not long block but could be short block |

Unfortunately he didn't say which is obviously no help at all. To be honest I don't really think he knew a great deal about the car himself as I've learnt more from the service history and receipts for the car than what he had described in his for sale ad

Where in Sussex are you?

Storrington or Horsham. May possibly come along to the meet in findon on Saturday where I'm sure people would find it easier to look at it opposed to a wonky picture!

Looks like you need some new vacuum hose on the boost solenoid in that bottom pic..

I do mate! On my long long list of things to do

Is it mapped, as it looks like it's running a 3-port solenoid, maybe a Prodrive item. Connected with garden hose.

would be more worried about the cracked one that goes back to air intake

It is yes but I need to plumb in a boost gauge as I have no idea what boost it's running at the moment and looks to be a standard actuator.
It looks like a 3-port solenoid and I'm pretty sure there was a receipt amongst all the history for it |

And yes I noticed that as I took the picture. Will be sorted very soon

plumb the boost gauge to manifold so you also get negative

It's all controlled by the ECU, and the actuator cracking pressure is approx. 1/2 target boost on a standard car, which allows the ECU to run 1/2 boost when detecting a fault. |

Ahh I see. So are adjustable actuators not the 'done thing' with these engines? Just all sorted at time of being mapped?
Very amateur questions but only have very basic knowledge of these engines. |
