Default wrx exhaust

Hi all,
Me again!!

I have a prodrive sports cat downpipe and have just ordered a new up pipe too.
Am i correct in thinking if i fit these i must drive off boost to a mapping centre.
Seen how these are fitted so will allow a fair bit of time for them.

Are there any problems i might come across apart from seized bolts? I plan on throwing plenty of rust penetrating fluid on them prior to doing the work.

Also would i be able to fit the up pipe and drive normally or the downpipe and drive normally incase i dont get it all done in a few hours.
Or is it better to not drive it until its mapped.

Thanks

I'm not sure if it will need mapped but I would after fitting and invest in some new bolts just in case one snaps as they prob haven't been remove for a very long time and some new multi layered gaskets .

New gaskets, spare studs, nuts and bolts. Brother had the full lot for sale with an up pipe, it's in the For Sale section.

if your changing the up-pipe for anything other than a s/hand std style one then ensure you dont buy the "flexi" egay type that are far oversized

ideally the Harvey Smith trick up-pipes are the thing.........

+1

Bigger is definitely not better for uppipes.

If you're changing the downpipe too, then I assume you'll be doing the uppipe from above and removing the turbo. If so, the bolts on the turbo heatshield will be rusted to hell, mine needed some of them cut off and that was 6 or 7 years ago when the car was well under 10 years old.

yea was going to try and do both in one day. Start early and jack it up at 7am. Was going to spend 2 days before preparing it and removing what i can and spraying it all up so hopefully just a case of jumping on it and the bits will pretty much just fall off. I am optimistic! lol
Whats the difference between the normal ones and the ebay ones? I have seen lots of those flexi things about. Is it to do with pressure??

the Ebay ones are crap in a word and increase time it takes to spool , blow in about 6 months . IMHO a STi un catted uppipe will do the job

It WILL need mapping if your removing the up-pipe cat and fitting a non catted one, so yes drive off boost until you can get it sorted, preferably book the mapping session for the following day after you have had the bits fitted.

Debateable this one

I agree that the safest thing would be to map it immediately. But I ran with the standard PPP map on the decat uppipe for 5 or 6 years with no problems at all (and the car gets plenty of stick as you know!). It went on the rollers a few times up at Surrey during that time and everything was fine. The uppipe cat doesn't do much really....

Of course, downpipe is a completely different matter, mapping definitely needed. As Mike is doing the downpipe too, then he'll need to map it for sure.

Phew..... all cancelled!

What do you think to this?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Subaru-Imp...item2ee30fec9d

HKS do one which is exactly the same at £138.
Harvey Smith Pipes are £159 (i think)

Any main difference apart from quality.

Thinking of a Harvey pipe as they seem really recommended.

The Harvey Smith ones are Tapered for better spool, different to the others and come pre-wraped with heat wrap, you will pick up 300/500rpm on the spool up with no loss of top end power. (at least no loss below 500+ hp on the standard one)
If I remember correctly Harvey used to do custom pipes dependent on the application, Im pretty sure Alyn is continuing with this.

It was the centre (third) cat that was removed with the PPP. I fitted a Sti up pipe to get rid of the pre cat, a very cheap mod.
