Default Time Attack @ Brands Hatch

Cheers for a good day yesterday guys! Although it didn’t go terribly smoothly for and I didn’t make it to the stand!

For the first time ever I was early to the meeting point for the convoy and things were going smoothly. Everyone arrived and we set off down the road for Brands. Got through the gate and was queuing up in Brands. No more than 10 meters from the entrance to the display area I put my foot on the clutch and as I lift off my foot comes up but the pedal stays down… hmmm. Hooked my foot under the pedal and tried again, it sticks for the second time. Then it started to spring back but clunk at the top! Tried pulling away 2-3 times and stalled and got stuck in gear every time. So shamefully I had to ask Steve to give me a push and get Jade to steer the car onto the grass and let all the other exhibitor cars go through. Mortified I sat there for a while wondering what to do before I stuck my head under the bonnet and started poking around for a solution.

I noticed fresh oil over the top of the gearbox which is never good so I got Jade to pump the clutch and I noticed that my clutch line was leaking fluid. I then noticed a split on the underside of the pipe about 3-4mm long. So I pushed the car into a parking space and went into enjoy the show pondering what to do? But having seen a recent Bear Grylls documentary I was inspired to fix the problem with what ever I could find… I managed to conjure up 2 zip ties, some double sided tape, some gaffa tape, some insulation tape, a jubilee clip and some sticks and wild berries which I used to make a screwdriver. First double sided tape, then insulation, then gaffa, then jubilee then the zip ties… then a quick pressure adjustment on the jubilee clip to get the pedal feel just right and the job was a good’un! Got me all the way home to a BBQ with the family with no dramas

Anyway, here are just some random pics of the day:

(Any notice Clive wearing that handbag!? )
