My classic is very quick knocking close to 500bhp. But the porker is 440 at the wheels (RWD) and weighs even less than my classic, and is KIN quick. But has no power steering, No ABS, no traction control, and a 1980's chassis albiet with a few tweaks so its Handfull to say the least.

The guys in the V8 m3's originally had E46 M3's which as we all know are very capable cars, but the V8 E92's are a signficant leap forward again. I was often literally left for dust last year when I had my Z4 3.0 (240bhp).

So should be fun playing this year. Difference will be I will staring at my gauges, and worrying everytime I press the loud peddle about something going bang/pop/falling off with my Blue bits under the bonnet. But the M3's will just take what ever you can throw at them, and just wan't more, and travel in comfort during it all.

There was mate E36 & E46 were straight 6's. Why they missed out on E56 66 76 & 86 i dont know? We are now at E90's

I've never understood the German naming conventions, Like why they miss out numbers, or dont follow a pattern. I'm sure there is some Logic to it, but I cant see it..

Look at EXX for Beamers, or the 99X numbers for Porsches..

Porsche deratatives is whats gets me, and always an endless source for me to wind up my brother To me they are all just 911's. But its a bit like calling a bog standard UK classic and a 22b .....a Scooby.

Autobahn should be fun, but I'll probably only be having the odd squirt, prolonged power runs have always ended in disaster for me. I'm Looking forward to the drive down and back and good company and a few pints and another tick off my bucket list more than the ring itself if i'm honest.

Can't wait bring it on...

I feel a bit guilty because I'm German and I can't help you on this. I haven't got much technical understanding. I only LOVE Impreza's and that's nearly it. But we have a member on the WOC, Lee_1075, who is English but lives in Germany. I'm sure he can help you lot a bit. If a member from here who is also a member of the WOC contacts him, I'm sure he will be more than happy to try to explain it to you. Or you can tell me what you would like to know and I'll ask him.

As for the Autobahn, Rob, I have written it somewhere here already but I'm not sure everybody read it and I certainly don't want to spoil your fun, guys. I love these unlimited areas, too. But you should possilby always keep in mind that, if you're doing more than 130 km/h in these areas and get involved in an accident, even if you didn't cause it (say, some idiot pulls out too close in front of you), you will be made partly guilty as well.

The same goes for alcohol. I don't know how it works in Britain, but if you had just one beer here, which is of course under the allowed limit of 0.5%, and get involved in an accident that you haven't caused, you will be made partly guilty, too.

Again, I hope you don't think I'm a spoilsport, I do wish you lot as much fun as possible over here. But I know that a lot of people are not aware of this.

Yup, that's what it is about, Ian. The most important thing to know is that it is the accidents that are not caused by you that could get you in a trouble that you haven't thought about before.

Possibly best way to Auderath: Not sure which way you normally go when you come over. But my brother (he is a long-distance lorry driver and basically lives on the motorways in Belgium, France and Germany) just told me it might be best to go on the E40 to Aachen, then on the A4 towards Köln, at junction 9 on the A61 towards Koblenz and at junction 34 via B262 to the A48 towards Trier and Auderath. He said the other route is filled with loads of road works and one lane traffic. On the route I've just described there are also about two road works but by far not as many as on the other route. Just a hint.

Another hint: Mind the gap. The German police has found another hobby: measuring the space between the cars on the motorway. So better make sure you leave enough space. It can be up to €400 depending on how small the gap is you leave.

Thanks for the heads up Kerstin. Our group have had some bad luck and expensive costs, last year and year before in France so will probably try and save most of it for the track. I get the feeling the porsche and M3 drivers are going to have to be very disciplined to not get provoked into the moment

We are ring Virgin's and have never been and don't even know where we are going to get there, or even have any experience of the track, so will likley be letting the ring veterens take lead....

I seriously hope that I haven't spoiled the fun for you guys, Rob. I just wanted you lot to be aware of the possible consequences. I don't think the Porsche and M3 drivers etc. will be more disciplined than usual, as I told you they all love the unrestricted sections. Just keep the facts in mind and have fun. I only didn't want you lot finding yourselves in a trouble that you would have never expected. I know that not even every German is aware of all that. I'm sure you'll be fine following the Ring veterans and I'm also totally sure you willl enjoy this trip no end.

Don't underestimate that Hawk of yours, if might not be as quick in the twisties as your ex Evo/Tree, But I reckon the scoob will serve you very well and certainly isn't slow. Having had a E46 M3 that hawk would be very closely matched.

But to throw some stats:

E46 M3 power to weight of 216bhp/tonne.
Hawk STI running 350bhp = power to weight of 245bhp/tonne
The E92's have a power to weight of 250bhp/tonne.
Classic circa 450bhp has power to weight of around 350bhp/tonne.
classic 911 turbo 550bhp power to weight of around 480bhp/tonne.

As I've always maintained BHP is great, but after a point, it's all about how much bottle/skill the driver has. I have no illusion that I will be properly spanked by many French cars running half my power on the ring.

On paper the E92 isn't that quick compared to a modified scoob... But I've never taken much notice of paper power of figures, as a road car its about the whole experience..
