The Goodwood Track Day
5th April 2014
Joining Instructions
Please read these joining instructions carefully, they are designed to help you and to also enable the smooth running of the event.

Saturday 5th April Track Day

Please access the Goodwood Motor Circuit via the main gates; which will be open by 07.15; where you should head straight to the noise test area which will be starting from 07.55. This area is located through the main vehicle access tunnel, next to the toilet block on the Richmond Lawn which is beside the designated refuelling area where an ‘A’ board will be prominently displayed.
Once your car has passed the noise test (105dB – you will be asked to volunteer your rev limit then noise testing will be conducted at ¾ RPM) you will be issued with a 105 green sticker directed either to the pit lane or into the queuing system. Should you not wish to go directly to the pit lane, then please use one of the historic paddock shelters of your choice to park your car.
Sign on and the drivers briefing will take place in the Jackie Stewart Pavilion (JSP) from 07.45 to 08.30 when the briefing will commence.

All drivers must sign on and attend the drivers briefing. Anyone wishing to gain access to the Pit lane or be a passenger should also sign on; dependant on numbers the briefing is a priority for Drivers only.

Drivers will then be issued with a wrist band with a number on it in exchange for the sign on sheet that will give you access to the circuit as a driver; passengers will be signed on in a similar way but need not attend the Driver briefing.

A second briefing will be held for late drivers at 09.20 in the JSP.

Please then make your way to the pit lane and park your car in line on the right hand side ready to be called forward by the marshals; this will be mentioned in the Drivers briefing. New drivers will have an opportunity to be driven round the circuit to make the optimum use of their track time in the Goodwood Mondeo (Before 0900 without helmets after 0900 with). Emphasis will be on lines and turn-in points. If in doubt do the familiarisation – it will pay dividends. We will also have access to an instructor; if you are new or just want to improve your overall performance then take advantage of the offer. Speaking from experience, it pays dividends.

The morning track sessions will commence at 09.00 and will run in durations of up to 15 minutes. Once a session is finished, join the end of the queuing system and await being called forward for your next session; you must be prepared to stay with your vehicle and push it forward.
Lunch will be between 12.30 and 13.30. Afternoon Driver’s brief will be at 1300 for those only doing a PM session
You are free to make your own lunch arrangements either at the Aero Club Café or at the NAAFI Wagon.
Fuel is not available on site this can be obtained from Sainsbury’s garage which is 1.4 miles south of the circuit.
Complimentary Teas and Coffees will be available until stocks are exhausted!

The afternoon track sessions will commence at 13.30 and will run in sessions of up to 15 minutes. The afternoon track sessions finish at 17.00.

Please remember that you will need a suitable crash helmet to participate in the event and arms and legs must be covered.
If you do not own a helmet then you can hire one on the day at a cost of £10.00 per person.
Should you wish to noise test your cars noise prior to the event, then this can be done by arranging a free test directly with the circuit office on 01243 755093.

For more information on how the noise test is conducted please go to www.goodwood.com and follow the links to Noise Management.

I hope you have found this information useful and would ask that you print it off and bring it to the event with you as a reference point.

Enter via the main entrance,

then if you wish drive straight ahead through the tunnel into the paddock area. (where we will be)

Or.

Enter via the main entrance,

and park on the left hand side, then you can use the foot tunnel to access the paddock area and be track side.

Flying back from Glasgow Friday night, don't expect me to be full of energy and cheerful on Saturday, haven't even had time to prep the car, so hope it is ok.

Your better off to do your first few track days on some normal road tyre's to get used to how your car behaves at or near the limit of grip., really all you need to do is make sure the brakes work and its not leaking anything

I don't suppose any of you lot own a code reader that'll work on a bug? Mines been on since taking my induction kit off. It runs fine so I'm not worried about it... It's just annoying and probably running a bit rich. If anyone has one, would they mind bringing it with them on Saturday.

I can read it on my phone if you like with a BTdongle and reset the ECU if needed, did you turn the key with the MAF disconnected?, or do it with the key on in the ignition, this will throw a CEL.
If you did then you can stop/start the engine 5 times to clear it if this is the case.

I'm sure there might be a laptop and lead on hand though

Hang on, I've written that wrong. I fitted the induction kit and it switched the engine light on so then I put the air box back with panel filter and hoped it would turn itself back off. But it hasn't. I reckon a reset will sort it out.

Same here, cleaned it yesterday and already looks like I've been rallying in Corsica.

Tomorrow's weather will be a bit of early morning smog followed by blazing sunshine and a cool breeze.

Might buy some new windscreen wipers just in case though...

Hey guys, unfortunately for me I can't be with you tomorrow due to being completely broke!!!, have a great day though and have fun, hope weather good for you.
Also on the subject of the sand, I think I may spray the wagon that colour so when it happens again, it'll still look clean rather than sandy silver that it is now!

Is there anybody else that's only going down to watch and is intending to make a later start. Not sure what time I'm heading off yet but happy to hook up with anyone else on the way along the coast.

RUNNING ORDER (due to format re-structure...see PM)

Morning
1. Ginola
2. Scruff
3. Wagon_Si
4. SamSTI
5. Bolesroor
6. Wagon_Si
7. Big"E"
8. Drakesnow
9. SilverSurfer

Afternoon
1. Ginola
2. Scruff
3. Steve_PPP
4. SamSTI
5. Bolesroor
6. Steve_PPP
7. Big"E"
8. Drakesnow
9. SilverSurfer

I've updated the running order as I can't make the morning now - agreed to swap my morning session with Wagon_Si so he does two sessions in the morning and I do two in the afternoon..... although it might make sense for us to both to shuffle the list a bit so the two sessions aren't too close together.

See you all tomorrow folks, hope the rain stays away!

You can swap me and Si in the morning if it'll help split his session a bit more. I'd like to stay where I am in the afternoon though as I've got to get back home to see my niece as it's her birthday.

Guys and girls, just want to say it was really good to meet you all today and am looking forward to seeing you all again. I think my two sessions have shown me that I need better suspension and without a doubt better performance pads and discs at the very least. The car is all wobbly on braking now. Totally worth it!!!! Hope there wasn't any injuries this afternoon. My old man gets the TVR Sprint magazine so I'll keep my eye open to see if the Hampshire lot mention the little prang by one of their members this morning. See you all soon.

Incident free for SES (or at least it was when I left), there was a very sad looking TVR after the morning sessions.

Thanks to Scott for doing the bulk of the organisation for this event, the day ran well despite the track interuptions and i think it worked better than the format last year (when we had to be in the right group and out there at a certain time).
