Default random sccob breakdown??

hi all
this is abit wierd so if anyone has any idears as to what caused this id be very gratefull.

car has been running fine an yesterday i popped round a mates for a bit of a yack an left scoob ticking over (we were both out the front) for around 20 min then got in scoob an as i left i gave it a bootfull an as soon as it reached 4000 revs just died!

rolled of the road an tried to start it an it just coffed once an backfired threw the intake?
tried again an managed to get it to fire but all it did was idle very roughly at 400rpm yes 400!
left it off 5 mins an tried starting it an it just fired up fine an ran fine as if nothing happend?
then drove the 30min drive home without missing a beat?

the car is mapped for a full decat but does still have the first cat an while it was ticking over outside my mates we both noticed you could smell cat? could that have anything to do with it?

thanks in advance

Ive heard of this before and I believe it had something to do with the fuel evaporating due to heat building up when left ticking over for a period.

That would explain why it seemed to clear it's self after you drove off.

I would imagine leaving it ticking over for 20 mins would build up alot of heat. My guess is it would be fuel. I've noticed with mine if its tickingover for a while, when I do pull away and change from 1st to 2nd it pops nicely!.
