Best thing Id say is remove Oe alarm and install a aftermarket. Not possible what you want to hear but may end up being cheaper than chasing a problem

Ok so I'm totally stuck
Have two keys which won't work
Both batteries replaced.
And no code to do the keypad
Is there a way I can get the code from
Subaru as I'm absolutly stuffed without a car?
Any help would be appreciated

Have you phoned a Subaru dealer to ask if they can obtain the code for you?

Does the car not open on the key and disarm the alarm when you put the key in the ignition, switch it to on (but don't start car) and blip the button?

Sounds like it could be the alarm that was struggling to receive rather than both keys struggling to transmit. I wonder where the receiver is on the sigma alarm, could be the connection has been degrading due to a high resistance connector or something. I'm afraid I wouldn't know where to look in my classic let alone on the bug but I would assume it's up under the dashboard somewhere. Have you had any problems with water leaks, all the rain recently could have been enough to finish it off if it's been running round a cable loom and into a connector.

Ok so update.
Whilst waiting for recovery
(Supposed electronic wizard)

I open the key and take out the curcuit board
Noticing a small screw head which I give a very slight turn.
Get out the car press it and voila!!!!
Immoboliser opens.
Walk further away and it's still working!
Walk further away than I have in years and it still works.
So I undo the other non worker and adjust that and it now works too (very close to drivers door)but I'm sure some fine tuning will have it like the other one.
But both keys now operate the central locking and cut the immobilisation.
Cancelled recovery (outside house anyway)

Only ever opened the key to replace batteries
There is a rubber housing holding the curcuit board.
One button popper
And a very clear micro screw.
Which on the now distance key was a quarter turn clockwise.
I can now arm and disarm from my lounge window.
Fingers crossed it's fixed.
