Default Flap delete question

The RS has a flap in the left tailpipe, that when in sport mode and on 70% plus throttle, opens to give the crackles and bangs and also some more noise. Its been discovered that there is a small delete module that can be bought and when connected to the motor for the flap, fools the ecu into thinking the flap is opening and closing, when in fact it is open all the time. Being open all the time gives it more noise all of the time. The VW boys have been doing it for a while on the Golf R.

I have just done it and it does sound better. More throaty sound, though it is a little more droany on lifting the throttle. Question is, would it have any other detrimental effect on the car, i.e back pressure, emissions etc?.

I've posed the same question on the RS forum as loads have done it on there, but nobody really seems to know.

I've had flaps (vavles) in the ute, monaro & vxr8 and never had a issue with emissions etc

Thanks ian.

Answered my own question too. Ive been driving it around for a couple of weeks now with the flap delete done and to me, despite a bit more sound generally at low speed, it wasnt popping and banging like it did when giving it the beans. Tonight, i changed it back and plugged the flap back in.

Normal mode - a bit quieter outside and a lot quieter inside (no droan)
Sport mode - popping and banging all over the place again.

So, it seems to work better with the flap doing its thing.
