Main difference is that the jdm is twin scroll.. so has different headers, sump, uppipe, downpipe and turbo (vf37).. and also comes with dccd 6spd which has more closer together ratio 5th and 6th rather than the uk that has a slight gap between 4th and the longer 5th and 6th and the drop gear is 1:1 so has 3.9 diffs back and front. uk is 3.9 front diff with 1.1:1 drop gear and a 3.54 rear diff.

if he intends modding for bigger power later then the uk is easier as you can just bolt a bigger turbo on and plenty to choose from.. the twin scroll there are less twin scroll larger turbos to choose from and they are more expensive.. if he intends not going for silly power later then the twin scroll jdm is an awesome buy.. 350~360bhp and 380lb torque from a decat and remap.

The jdm will also have folding mirrors.

both engines will take 450bhp without issue.

Obvious one to go for would be a spec c but expect to pay more.

Simon

one thing to bear in mind would be to check insurance as although similiar group rating some companies will not touch an Import...........might make the choice easier

It's true that some companies don't do imports, but I've owned import STis for over 12 years now and I've never had difficulty finding insurance, and I've never paid over the odds.

You need look no further than Moley on here for a good price.
