Exclamation The Ring 2011 YES 2011!!!!!!

Calling all Ringers and potential Ringers for 2011

I have had an e-mail from Jacqueline this morning asking about next years trip.

Now, I know this may seem quite early (understatement or what ) but she has had enquiries for the weekend we usually do and she wants to give us first refusal basically.

Now, while we were in Germany, we talked very loosely about still doing the ring and having it as either the last part of a longer trip, or a weekend (as per this weekend) for those that only wanted to do this part.

The question is, are we happy to go with this weekend? I for one am happy with this weekend as we have only had one bad day in 8 days out there in 2 years. And StevePPP can vouch for the weather the week before.

I think if we get 12 - 16 names agreeing with this date, then I can get us booked in again. Jacquelines e-mail is as below:

Hello Steve,
Did everybody get back alright?
Just one quick question. Is it the same weekend next year as this weekend?
I have had an inquiry for the last weekend in May, but I want to make sure if that is the weekend you want to come over.
Send my love to the boys. And of course a big hug to Laura!
Best wishes
Jacqueline

Room 72 euros per night for room b/b (which i split with mate sharing a twin)
ferry about 80 quid return
laps at least 22 euros each but less if bought in bulk
at least 3-4 tanks of fuel

I reckon it cost me £450 all in

My double room, 2 evening meals for 2 people, drinks for me and Laura, plus 2 rounds of Flaming Sambuccas (12 of) came to 372 Euros (about £350.00)

Petrol wise, I filled up 3 times. so about £160.00

Ferry @ £30.00 ( I got an early deal)

So, if you went on your own you are looking at £500.00 for the above. If you go with a wingman in the car, who shares the costs, then you can obviously halve the cost. So obviously £250.00 each.

The 4 lap ring ticket was 75 Euros (£70.00)

We had one meal away from the hotel, which was 26 euros per head (£24.00)

Then with the other odds and ends, a couple of pizza's and odd beers here and there. T shirts, ring stickers etc, which is as much as you want to spend.

So, to sum up. It cost me about £750.00 in total, £375.00 per head for me and Laura. It won't change much by this time next year I imagine.

Hope that helps.

With regard to the dates, I am quite happy to go on the same weekend as this year.

But as Silversurfer has said it may be better to consider an alternative so that "The ring" is less crowded, when I went out on the Friday evening the conditions were perfect.

It would be good if we could find a date that would also include access to "The ring" on the Monday,as it did last year or may that was a one off seeing as it was the Germans bank holiday.

Is a trip to the Stelvio pass still on the cards??

We will have to do some research with regards to a possible route, mileage (fuel cost) and what else we can do whilst we're out there if we go. Whilst it would be a driving holiday, i think there needs to be something interesting to do )in the Alps maybe) which would give us a rest day or two from driving. Whilst its a beautiful road and i'd love to drive it, spending 2 days driving there only to turn around and come back is going to be a killer.

Bear in mind that Dover - Stelvio is over twice the distance to drive as Dover - Nurburgring

We would have to make the trip over a week i would imagine.
Subarman has done a trip down there and I'm sure would have some ideas, there must be some quality tunnels

If something like this is going to happen people need to know well in advance,
personally I would have to make it my annual holiday as it wouldnt be cheap

The biggest single reason we do this date is so that we all only need to take one day off of work, the Friday. Which is why other people are after booking it.

Scott, next year, we would be leaving on the Friday 27th May, the day after Mrs Scotts Birthday. If Ian was able to keep schtum this time , do you think you could wangle it?

With regards the Ring being quiet, it's never quiet now as a rule.

It wasn't bad most days this weekend, Saturday afternoon was obviously a write off. But any other time, people got out there no problem. So it seems pretty much perfect for many reasons. The response to go at the same time pretty much agrees with that.

Oh sod it go on then if i don't do it now (2011) i never will! Better to travel with you lot who have been there already and know how things work.

One thing though, i wouldn't care about booking the extra day(s) off work if it means the ring would be... well, not empty but more vacant.

Right then guys and gals.

Following on from the original statement, that if 12-16 went on this date, I would book the hotel.

I have sent Jacqeline the e-mail below, asking her to reserve the hotel on the same weekend as this year.

Hi Jacqueline

There has been a fairly unanimous YES to the same weekend next year. Which would be from Friday 27th May - Monday 30th May 2011.

So to that end, can we please reserve for that weekend?

We have already had 16 cars down on the list, obviously that will change as we go forward. When do you want me to come back to you with a list of some sort?

Speak soon.

Take care

Steve
