Default Germany Pictures

I am right up against it all today, but thought I should get some pics up.

I will do some more when I get some more time later.

Thank you young sir.

I needed something to do to stop me getting down after my big bang, so threw my attention to photos instead.

Great pics. Above and beyond the call of duty after your bad luck.

Edit - Good crash at Brunchen there. Did the pug lose it and crash into the back of the golf?

I know I had bad luck, but when you know a biker died this weekend, you tend to think maybe a smashed big end ain't too bad in comparison. The upside was that I could drink all weekend too

You hit the nail on the head about the Pug clouting the Golf. The Golf was flying too, the pug took him out big time.

Both of the viewing banks were packed too, so he couldn't get away with "It wasn't my fault" for sure

Thanks mate.

Trying to get it all sorted out this afternoon insurance, recovery, engine rebuild etc.

Brugge was Scotts idea, and it was a cracker. We stopped there for 2 hours on the way to the port, had a beer and a bite to eat (eventually ) and then cracked on. Was a really good end to a brilliant weekend.

Where did you hear this? Are you refering to the nasty one at Wippermann on Saturday? I heard nothing about a death

I've never known a crash on the Nordscheife to be good...

This is the worst weekend I've been there for closures and accidents in the past 3 years. I only managed 36 laps and the German Bank Holiday ended at 5pm on Monday for me when the rain came and the English hero in a 200SX decided to overtake me sideways only to lose control in front of me and spin into (and down) the Armco causing me to slam on the brakes and frantically run 50 metres up Wippermann to flag on the oncoming traffic

I did feel sorry for you guys having to queue for so long to get on track. As I had a season ticket I could join at Breidscheid where there were no queues and even at the Nurburg entrance season ticket holders had their own ticket barrier.

I got great pics of you two. I will post some more in the next few days.

The last we heard about the biker was he was getting CPR at the track side. We had two paramedics in our little team, one informed us that having CPR through trauma like that is nealry always fatal I then heard (how relaible I can't guarantee) at the trackside the following day that he had died.

A guy in a garage we went to on Saturday morning said at this time of year it is usually one per weekend, usually a biker.

The waiting was a pain, even though my car was fooked and completely out of action. I was stood with my lens through the fence waiting for hours on Sunday for 2 of our boys to come round, but hey ho. Such is life.

Thanks for sorting the grub out on Saturday Mark. Much appreciated

I think I can speak for everyone who went when I say we really enjoyed the whole experience. The Hotel, the ring, the country, the people, the beer and grub! The whole thing was wonderful. We are all extremely jealous of you.

People love to over exaggerate

The offical police statistics for 2008:
105 accidents on track during public days attended by police
1 death
77 bodily injuries (55 were motorcyclists, 1 death, 23 seriously injured)
98 cars
77 motorcylces
79/105 happened at the weekend

Obviously there are many more accidents that police do not attend but these are 'minor' and certainly not life threatening. There are more deaths on the local roads than on the Nordschleife.

Still nasty figures though. How many days a year is the track open for public days?

It must be shut a fair bit in the winter?

It was shut for about 3 months this winter due to snow and track repairs. Not sure on the total number of days it's open to the public, maybe 200 days a year with sessions varying between 2hrs and a full 11.5hrs day.

Looked like you all had a cracking time, and wished more than ever I made the effort to come to this now. But will have to console myself with Le-man week Thursday instead.

Sorry to hear about your STI worzel. In reality yours should have been the most reliable of the bunch, so just goes to show you never know with cars what to expect. Will expect to see something in the project thread soon then.

So who managed the best lap time... ?.

It's one of those how longs a piece of string things.

The pics I have taken are taken with a Nikon D300 and either a Sigma 70-200 2.8 / Tokina 24-80 2.8 ex dg pro / Tokina 12 - 24 2.8 ex dg pro.

I have always used Nikon, so would alway recommend them. They have a great range from the D50 upwards, you would struggle to find a better middle of the road camera price wise than the D80, it really is top notch. I have always found Sigma lenses really good too, and they are cheaper (and 95 times out of 100 every bit as good as Nikon branded lenses)
