Default wagon vs saloon

Am just wondering if any of you have owned a saloon and a wagon and what the main differences are handling wise? or do they feel exactly the same to drive? i never used to like wagons....AT ALL...BUT i have to say im 99% sure when i re-enter the world of scoobies soon its gonna be a wagon as they are growing on me massively.

your thoughts please!

Dave

Not owned a wagon (yet) but I would imagine they are virtually identical in handling!

Hello Dave

I think it all depends on the suspension/tyre package on each individual car. There are all sorts of fabled tales about the effect of the rear bulkhead on classic saloons versus the fact you ain't got one in the classic wagon. I think you would be hard pressed to tell the difference.

With the new age wagons there may be more of a difference because the wagon has a narrower track.

I am sure someone with better knowledge than I will assist.
Glad the wagon is growing on you!!!

I believe i can give some technical input here.

Wagons have "Wagon Wheels" - Now as you all know they are made from chocolate and Jam.
Whilst they taste devine they do tend to give a little whilst cornering.
Howver i am told the attached caravan and dog sitting in the back do compensate for the soggy cornering.

There is no rear bulkhead in the saloon as the seat fold down on UK.
Seats don't fold on WRX/STi (and to be Anal RB5 & P1), they have no bulkhead but to have a strut brace/strengthening bar (off-sorts) behind the seat cushion.

In all seriousness i have never been out in a wagon, i am guessing there are not many estates that will come near the scoob for power and handling, maybe the odd Audi!

Oh and yes Keith, i do love the wagon wheel, perfect

ive had 2 saloons and now on the wagon (?)handling wise it depends on suspension package but my wagon and my sti 3 had the same tein springs on and to be honest the sti did handle a little better but i was running standard 16s and on the wagon ive got new age 17s but im putting some sti2 ally s on this week and ill let you no.

also more weight higher up the car compared to thesaloon will have an effect of center of gravity

hope this helps.

I bought some nice footwell storage thingies from tescos, and took all the stuff out of the boot and store it in the rear footwells as they are not used much. So all the weight is now low down if I also take the sub out for "special days".

Does it improve the handling? No idea, but it must help counter that big old roof!

Take the roof bars off as well if you have them - they are quite heavy!!
