Thats pretty good, i'm with ADAC which gives you full European cover for a year for around £70, had to use them a couple of times, the last when my Scooby blew and in the UK its the AA that comes out to you

Had a stroke of luck today - turns out my Breakdown cover with Barclays covers Europe plus repatriation!! £50 more for beer then!

I'll stick the subaru Umbrella and the chairs in the car tonight!

Not long now

I'll be running on V Power for the trip down but will have 25Ltrs of Meths in the boot so I can run 20% at The Ring.

Anyone else need some Meths ?

This might seem like a couple of stupid questions but, the gb sticker, is it the one on the number plate or the big one for the boot? And what are headlight beam deflectors?

If you have a GB badge on the number plate then you don't need one for the boot

Beam deflectors alter the headlamp beam the other way for continental driving so not to dazzle other drivers

Theres like a switch in the centre dash that can dim the lights I think. (think being the main word in that sentance )

lol, no thats no good, in the UK the headlight beam aims to the the left, when driving on the continent that would dazzle the other drivers, so beam deflectors alter the beam so not to

Its easy if you haven't done it before. Only confusing parts are strange junction layouts and going round roundabouts the wrong way

But there's a good size group of us and its a lot easier to just follow the leader if you want to

Ive driven on the other side many times but never in Europe.

The US & Canada are crazy slow places to drives

You can go on a red light when turning right, if a yellow school bus stops on your side of 4 lanes over on the right you MUST stop when they stop.
All kids in Canada are taught that whenever the leave a bus it's safe to cross the road.
I spent more time looking for yellow buses than women !

So true Ian, its actually a pleasure to drive out there cos of the lane discipline, the only idiots staying in the outside lane are normally the english lol

Don't know if it was just me but i never had any problems getting used to driving on the wrong side the first time i went

Last year when i went to Germany i got 24mpg and that included a couple of runs down the autobahn, i don't do a lot of town driving in it so thats about average , it helps that at 80mph its only doing 2000rpm

The Check List
FOR THE CAR


1: Spare Bulb Kit
2: Warning Triangle
3: Hi Visibility Vests (1 for each person in car)
4: Headlight Beam Deflectors
5: Fire Extinguisher
6: First Aid Kit
7: Octane Booster
8: Oil (optional but advised)
9: GB Sticker (if you don't have the blue GB ended number plates)
10:Spare Key
11: Sat Nav (with European Data)
12: Crash Helmet
13: European Insurance & Breakdown Cover (make sure it covers repatriation, just in case)
14: Track insurance (those insured with Keith Micheals, call Moley)
15: Driving License (including Paper Part)
16: Locking wheel nut tool
17: V5 Registration document

PERSONAL ITEMS

1: Ferry Tickets (confirmation e-mail) & Passports
2: E 111
3: Euro's and debit / credit cards (inform bank that you are away for safety)
4: Mobile Phone & Charger
5: Headache Tablets (trust me)
6: European Plug Adaptor
7: Walkie talkies ?
8: Big bag of cash. Euros.

Just to add, you should also take your V5 registration document just in case you get pulled over and ask to produce your paperwork! Worth taking current MOT certificate too.

Ours take AAA batteries.

Bring them along even if they have limited range, as it'll be better than nothing
