Exclamation Final check list and travel arrangements.
Not long now !!!

Friday 23th

06.20 Meet @ the Shell service station Junction 11 M20 (CT21 4GH)

06.40 Leave for Euro tunnel terminal. (2 minutes down the road)

06.45 Check in

07.36 Depart UK.

We will be stopping at the Shell garage/services @ Barchon Sud E40/E42 for breakfast and then convoy/play down to the Hotel

Those who have been before will probably have most of this stuff already. For those who have not been before, the below list is invaluable. Most of the items in the "For The Car" section are actually law in Europe, so I would advise that you make sure that you do / have these things arranged.

I'm sure that most of you who have been before will have this stuff, but it's well worth double checking, just in case. Anything that you haven't got can be purchased at places like Halfords.
BLUE are the ones that are Law in Europe! Please remember that the breathalysers are a requirement in France .
But apparently there are no penalties for not having one

The Check List FOR THE CAR

1: Spare Bulb Kit
2: Warning Triangle
3: Hi Visibility Vests (1 for each person in car)
4: Headlight Beam Deflectors (see link below)
5: Fire Extinguisher
6: First Aid Kit
7: Octane Booster (personal choice)
8: Oil (optional but advised)
9: GB Sticker (if you dont have GB on your number plate)
10:Spare Key
11: Sat Nav (with European Data)
12: Crash Helmet (not compulsory)
13: European Insurance & Breakdown Cover (make sure it covers repatriation, just in case)
14: Track insurance (those insured with Keith Micheals, call Moley)
15: Driving License (including Paper Part)
16: Locking wheel nut tool
17: Tyre pressure gauge
18: Breathalyser kit

PERSONAL ITEMS
1: PASSPORT !!
2: Euro Tunnel confirmation e-mail with booking reference.
3: E 111 (optional additional health insurance)
4: Euro's and debit / credit cards (inform bank that you are away for safety)
5: Mobile Phone & Charger
6: Headache Tablets (trust me)
7: European Plug Adaptor
8: Walkie talkies ? (I will be bring the same 3 or more if I can acquire some)
9: Big bag of cash. Euros.

Those with TOM TOM's down load the shell garages onto your european maps. If you know of anything that need adding to this list, please feel free to add it.

Was going to ask about helmets, what are the general opinions??... Seem to see lots of people with them but just as many without!

It is entirely your choice.

Personally I dont wear one, took them on the first year but didnt wear it.

Sometimes I think they may give you a false sense of security and you do need as much vision and to be able to here the tyres squealing .

It is not a race track if you treat it as a country road you will be a lot safer..

Would anyone be interested in a group buy for some octane boost ?.

I have just spoken to Alyn at AS Performance and he can do a Millers octane boost (500ml) for £12.75 or NF Formula for £13.75 + postage depending on how many orders we get.

The thinking behind this is: in the past the Belgium fuel is slightly less potent so it is only required for 150 miles or so as the the Germans have 102 at the pumps in Adenau.

It is aswell to take your documents.

Hopefully they cant accuse you of nicking the vehicle you are driving.

Crowman knows all about carrying the correct paper work.

In France it is compulsory to carry all your documents (log book,insurance certificate,driving licence and mot certificate) failure to do so is a criminal offence.If you are stopped by the police it will almost certainly be the first thing they will ask you.

What time are we leaving Hastings chaps. Need to pick my prother up from Pett in the morning so suggest I meet you in the lay by outside Guestling primary school at the bottom of White Hart Hill (The one where trees jump out in front of Evos). Then convoy over to the M20.

We have to be at the Shell services by 6:20am so I guess Pease Pottage meet at 5am, leave by about 5:10am?

We have to be at the Shell services by 6:20am so I guess Pease Pottage meet at 5am, leave by about 5:10am?

I know you guys have probably all seen this, but be a bit cautious on the M25.... especially if you're late and trying to make up time.....

I read this, and had it mind yesterday on the way to and from Leeds castle, I tried to not travel too quick!, hopefully my speed didn't creep up too much... (hopefully its not in full "cash cow" mode yet!....)

I did notice lots of extra cameras on the sides of some of the pillars. It didn't seem to slow a lot of folks I remember being passed by quite a few folks 1 or 2 bikes in particular moving quite quick.

Thanks Gary - I'd seen that as well as was keeping an eye out for them. You can ususally spot them fairly easily even though they're painted grey. I'm sure I noticed cameras mounted on the back of the side gantry signs too, yet no distance markings on the road?

I'd agree with 5am to leave at 5.10 if that works for everyone?

(Could go a little earlier if anyone wants to play it extra safe?? )
