Default Dolly Sprint sees the light of day at last!!!

Well it went under a cover in 2001 and came out today!

It took enough turning over to pump the fuel up to the carbs, and lo and behold it started. Once warm it ticked over like I just started it yesterday - no lumpy idle or anything!

Shame one of the tyres has perished! Now I have got to clean it! And then find it a new home!! I have owned it since 1978!! What a wrench!

Some years ago!!

Looking good, and so good to hear it started and ran fine after all that time.
More reliable than my lawn mower, and that's after only 6 months lay-up.

what you reckon it's worth ???

Yes it's been a long time. The road tax ran out in 2001 - it cost £155 then. Now i would pay £185 - that's not a big rise really!

What would i do with it if I kept it? Take it round the block once a week? I think it's time it was "enjoyed" by someone else. I am going to wash and polish it in a minute!

Isn't it exempt from Road tax now? Being over 25 years old.

Ooops just answered my own question.

New Labour got rid of the 25 year old exempt from car tax treat. Gits!

I put a sunroof in it. Is that what you meant Nige? The vinyl roof is original, all Sprints came with it.

Yes mate & vinyl should also be on the rear pillars.
Is this one an o/d model? If not i know where there is a brand new o/d box for it. I realise your selling it might be usefull to the next owner. Shame your selling Sprint's have there own little bit of history being the 1st 2litre single ohc 16v. When unipart raced them back in the day they produced 230bhp. Good luck with the sale mate.

I so wanted one of these when I was a kid.
...Then it was a HS Chevette
.........Then a RS2000
................Then a Quattro
........................Then an Lancia Integrale (Evo of course)
....................................Then an Impreza…

A think a lot of people of a "Similar age" are not too far away from this list.

Done a bit of cleaning. It felt funny washing it as my arms followed those long-forgotten contours!

Hi Nige - Yes you are right about the pillars. Just one of the "custom touches". You will note the stripes along the wheel arches, front spoiler etc which mimmick the Broadspeed Racing cars of the 70's.

Yes it's an O/D box. Should be okay as the car has only done 78000 miles in all it's 33 years! However a spare would not go amiss!

I have a spare lightened and balanced engine for it as well, which came out of another green Sprint I owned (see picture - it's the one at the back). Fancy owning five Triumphs in the day. Only got 4 Subarus at the mo though. Poor Julia!
