Just a quick bit of info for those sorting out insurance....

Whilst I was looking into this last year, I discovered that there is an agreement between insurance companies in EU states 'to offer the minimum level of cover in that state' when insuring motorists for driving abroad.
Makes a lot of sense, and seems like the purpose of it is too avoid unnecessarily complicated insurance issues.

So, in theory, whatever insurance policy you have, you will be covered.

So much for good ideas......

If there is small print excluding the Nordschleife by name or by any other wording then the insurance company will seek to claim the damages back from you.

Apparently its best not to ask your insurance company directly as they will invariably say 'no'. You need to look at the driving abroad small print to see if there is some clause regarding 'one-way de-restricted toll roads'. If there is, it is probably relating specifically to the Nordschleife.
(Although not too sure how the 'de-restricted' thing would stand up in court as the Nordschleife is a public road with many restrictions, including some speed restrictions - but wouldn't want to test this defense out myself!)

As I had just renewed last year (with Gary) I paid the £60. But my previous policy was less than £60 more than my current one and had no such (mean, considering the 'agreement') exclusion.

I can not get hold of my insurance company as they are shut for the week due to snow But going through my policy it says
Racetrack
Any track, field, circuit or road, including toll roads(with nomaximum speed limit)which is being used at the time of the loss or damage for racing, rallies, pacemaking, speed trial or track days.

I take it from this i would not be covered at all.Not being with Keith Micheal how do i get the insurance i need.

You could perhaps try some one like Adrian S Flux for track day cover. Or even Competition Car Insurance. Not sure of contact details, think a google search should bring them up.

I have spoken to a chap that specialises in track day insurance,
and regularly covers trips to "The Ring"

He has said to me to get in contact with him, when I was able to give, details of :

1. Names
2. Reg numbers
3. Car values

Please PM me with your details and I will contact him, on behalf of anyone that wants insurance.

Obviously the rate will go down if we can get a group purchase.

It was always going to happen unfortunately. Especially in the current climate.

The one good thing though is that we could go as one lot all the way instead of going as two sections and meeting up en-route and at venue etc

We have talked a couple of times about meeting up to discuss all of the bits and bobs. Is everyone coming to the SES meet on the 28th Feb?

If not, can I suggest a date of Friday 6th March at about 7.30pm in the evening at a central point for all that are coming?

I will be going to the SES meet and will obviously go to the meeting on the 6th March if not done on 28th Feb.

4. Nige + son Ferry & hotel booked @ Worzel palace

8.BIG "E" & son Steve ( Ferry Booked and hotel accommodation reserved)
9. Duncan +1 ( Ferry booked and hotel accommodation reserved)

been trying to justify going because its something i've always wanted to do - hopefully there'll be another trip next year that i can afford to go on. its that old scenario of "if i don't go know, when will i go.... ?" but hey, cash is tight at the moment

have a great trip guys and take lots of photos

Right then guys, we seem to have found the version everyone likes.

All of the versions are below. Please check YOUR version to see if you like it as it is.

The two longer names (Major Scooby & Silver Surfer) I have done as 2 lines, as it would have been a very small font size. I can change it if you prefer, but I think personally they look better this way.

Please check spellings too.

Right then, here we go:

Just a quick reminder guys!

Can everyone update the list when they have paid the deposit to the hotel please?

If I remember correctly, it had to be paid by March 2nd.

So if you have not yet paid the 50% deposit requested, you need to do so quickly, as March 2nd is MONDAY!!!

Cheers guys

I know the way,and all is programed into sat nav.
Am happy to take lead, I know Big E also has it programmed into sat nav, plus we all have radios, so all will be cool.

As long as it's not like finding the hotel in Lille!

Foook me, that was funny, especially the 12 mile round the block detour

We had such a grin with the radios in Lille!

There was one set of traffic lights coming out of Brugge that was letting 3-4 cars through. Thanks to the radio, we made sure that the lead car held at the lights and then bam! What we must have looked like to the locals flying off from those lights!

They do add something to it for sure. Especially when everyone gets all "Convoy" 10-4 big buddy come back!

Who needs launch control that was well executed.

Couldn't tell who was in front

Trouble is this time we have lost the radio Queen, so the radio might not be so entertaining.

Hopefully we can all have a chat tomorrow and get a few things sorted.
