Ruff round the edges??

Got the car out couple of days back to find that we're it's been sitting for a little while it's coverd in dust /dirt..
So Off to the jet wash for a rinse before I gave it a polish..
Been to the jet wash three times know..and used foam brush lance etc and cannot shift the ruff feeling that's on the paint work?? Lovely and clean thou... Any ideas on how to get what ever it maybe off?? As I'm not going to chance polishing like it

Im pretty sure its build up ofnnormal dust dirt etc.. Not over spray or anything else...

Sounds like you need to go over it with a clay bar .

Do you park near trees at all for any length of time? If so, the recent week of hot weather might have dotted your car with tiny droplets of sap, as all the trees sprang into life.

If that is the case, I would say it needs a good citrus (soft stripping) foam, wax free wash, clay, rinse, polish (if needed) and wax. You will know after the clay if you have got the stuff up.

What type of roof is the car under?

You may find that its some form of contaminant from the underside of the roof itself.

Even though its in a garage, would pay you to put an inside car cover over the car, to prevent further damage

Martin..I was wondering if a clay would sort it or scratch it...have to try it I think... May do the citrus wash first... Can I buy this from anywhere??
Hasn't been parked anywhere but garage The roofs wood with the felt overtop... Really strange as its never happend before!! I did used to cover it with a soft sheet... But stopped as it was sweating up..
I take it covers made specifically are breathable...

Yes, get a breathable car cover you won't suffer the problems of the cover scratching anything because the garage will stop the wind from lifting it.

You could also hang a tarp / sheet in the garage to catch any fall out. You could do this if your worried about covering the car.

Is the roof all wood, single board (large section boards) or slats and is there any joists etc etc. Thinking metal contaminant but may well be sap or bitumen, combined with the dust particles.

Thing that makes it worse in a garage is the heat, anything that sits on the car will bake on.

Would go for a cover myself, doesn't need to be a fitted one, a loose fit one will be fine for inside.

Sounds like you need to soften first, snow foam, Citrus and or TFR, maybe G101 or Tardis (dabbed on) clean the car and Clay bar. If they are stubbonly stuck, you may need to go for a de-nibber and then machine polish to finish down.

Worst case senario would be to wet sand but I don't think it would be that bad.


Work small areas with short motion to minimise scratching, should be able to polish out any marring or fine scratches if necessary.

Ive used a clay bar on mine before you'll be amassed what it brings off what you think is clean paint work.

I cover mine with an old bed sheet and gap the windows slightly so the car can still breath.

Some G5 on a wet soapy microfibre cloth buffed all over, or there are cheaper derrivatives from G5, that will do the same sort of thing. Or if you want to go easy on the arm muscle then better still a polishing wheel would soon sort. But would then need finishing with a polish, then a wax, then a sealant for best affect.

Imo id use the snow foam first and let it dwell for a while if you dont decide to buy id first use a spray form of tar remover then gently wash it off, do this before claying because if you get any big debris in the clay it will make a nightmare of your paint
