Tyre Pressure Thingys

Right then, I’ve done a few track days and TBH I haven’t really paid too much attention tyre pressures. I think I dropped them a couple of times to get better grip etc but I’m never really on the edge so I don’t think it makes a material difference to someone with the driving talent of moi.

To this end I have purchased some wireless tyre pressure sensors. They are the very finest quality that £30 spent on eBay can possibly buy.

I will be giving them a bash at Lydden on Saturday so we will see how they work out. Just be interesting to see if

A) they work
B) how quickly the pressures change

How does the system work Nick, are they sensors on the insides of the wheels, maybe attached to each tyre valve?

I’ve got steelmate internal tpms with a display on the dash in the kia, they seem to work ok when tyre pressures change when static eg temperature change or inflating/deflating.

I don’t have them updating on a journey very well, but i think this is down to fitment as we had to rotate them 180 degrees due to slight weird mounting angle on the kia wheels. Something i’m going to have another look at soon.

My new STi has tyre pressure moinitering,no idea how it works,but has kicked in once when tyre pressure dropped a tad.

It's just a dust cap with a pressure and temp sensor - I dabbled last night and seemed to work ok. Sends a wireless message back to a little unit that plugs to your 12v.
