Default Whining noise

I've noticed a whining noise coming from my car wholes driving, it sounds a bit like a gearbox whine though it continues when I take it out of gear, also it gets louder when I accelerate.
Any ideas what this could be?

I wouldn't say that was Gearbox issue, maybe a wheel bearing, my gearbox is whining and when i take it out of gear it stops..

Dont know if there is a middle bearing in the centre transferbox where prop joins gearbox...

But i would say wheel bearing, maybe jack car up and spin wheels as well as check for play...

I am no expert though...

It sounds like it's coming from the engine bay, tone noticed that the seal where the drive shaft goes into the gearbox was leaking so not sure if that's related?

Does the whine go up and down when the car out of gear and you rev the engine?

It's most noticible when I'm doing over 50mph, when I take my foot off the accelerator it's quietens down, faster I go the louder it gets

When it happens next drop it into neutral and rev it. See if it still increases with the revs.

Reason I say this is a mate of mine has exactly the same problem and we are trying to figure out what it is.

It sounds like it coming from under the bonnet more though it is hard to tell, hope I don't have to do the gearbox again!

Yeah I need to take the air con off, how can I cure this if it's the alternator or power steering?

If its the bearings then replacing it would be the best thing to do. I don't know of anywhere that will recon them?
Think you can pick them up 2nd hand fairly cheap.
