Bought and watched the 1971 LeMan last week, good film for petrol heads, nice noises, little dialog ...just like good sex.

Grand Prix always gets a lot of rave reviews, but I didn't enjoy that anywhere near as much as Le Mans.

The first couple of GiS films are excellent, but the series has gone a bit stale now (in my opinion anyway). And C'etait Un Rendezvous is a classic - even if the audio is dubbed...

Just the one Merc, a 450SEL 6.9, which I understand is the 22B of the Merc world? (Coincidentally a Merc 450SEL 6.9 was also used in "C'etait Un Rendezvous", which got mentioned earlier in the thread).

I would definately rate those two films (Bullitt & Ronin) as the best movie car chases. Ronin actually stands as a good film on its own.

I personally think the French Connection chase is a bit overrated, though it always seems to appear in the top 10 lists for chases, anyone agree or disagree there?

450SEL along with a lot of other Mercs are 22B of 3 pointed star world

Notice how all the great car chase films are all old. Nothing in the last few years. (Fast & Furious series don't count as good films)

Bullit car chase...

I daresay they don't really count as good chases either, as CG has crept into a lot of them. Having said that, Tokyo Drift was mainly "real" driving and had some pretty good sequences in there.

I enjoyed the Death Race remake given it used the minimal amount of CG but, once again, the story was pretty thin on the ground. Having said that, I rank Bullitt as the greatest movie car chase, but the film itself isn't particularly good (still head and shoulders above a F&F movie in terms of plot though!).

The three Bourne films all have some pretty good chase sequences in them and they are all pretty new - though they aren't really car films as such.

Just thought of another one to add to the list though: Mad Max!
