Scary **** indeed.
And it's still to cause more problems with the tsunami wave still heading towards Chile & America. I have heard up to 3m wave by the time it gets there. |

watching the footage on the BBC website, looks really bad. News coming in about problems trying to cool one of their nuclear reactors too....
8.9 is massive - remember the richter scale is logarithmic.... so a 9.0 is actually ten times stronger than an 8.0 Going to be very expensive for Japan at a time when economies are screwed. Generally what happens in one stock market will affect other markets like ours too. |

Was only talking to some guys in the office the other day saying there appears to be a natural disaster every month these days and where will it end.
I'm not a tree hugger, but Mother nature is telling us something, and shouting pretty loud about it now. And without being too phyosophical, it once again re-inforces my new mind set of lifes too short, and people should worry about what really matters in life. Truly shocking and worrying as well. |

Wife and many of my friends are in Tokyo and it was very strong even there. No phone or mobile networks are working but luckily internet is up and running so I'm in contact with my wife. Our local Costco in Tokyo, which I went to regularly, has had their car park collapse and amazingly very few injuries and no fatalities. Looking very, very bad in Sendai, Iwate and Miyagi. I'm watching NHK (Japans national TV network) and they are finding a lot of bodies that have been swept away by the Tsunami and the damage is catastrophic. Very, very sad indeed.

Very sad. I honestly think , things like this are just going to become the norm in years to come. It will be more a case of how to prepare for this sort of thing. |

it was really sad to hear whats happened over in japan and i hope that japan can turn it around quickly and there aren't to many casualties. but i hope other countrys are a bit more like us when we hear of these stories as when i went to look at the news on my phone this morning the first story to appear about japan was this one, and america wonders why the rest of the world thinks that all they care about is oil.

Some of the footage on the BBC site is horrific. You can see cars and the like being outpaced by the wall of debris - absolutely terrible. I hope the casulties are minimal but, looking at the footage, the death toll is sure to be bad.

aparently the moon will be unusaly close to the earth on the 19th of this month and at that time, the earth is at a higher risk of earthquakes than normal so there may be more to come.

The moon/earthquake thing is just a theory rather than proven science, isn't it?...

it has a gravatational influence on the earth, hence the sea tides. gonna have the same effect on magma below the earths crust, hence more earthquakes.
gotta admit i didnt quite hear all of it on the news report as i was in and out of the house at the time, and i dunno where i know the above from, but i've heard it somewhere in the past, and it sounds logical. one of those rare occasions when i hope I am wrong |

just did a few searches on the inernet about it:-
Hurricane Katrina, which happened in 2005, was accompanied by the supermoon phenomenon. The super moon occurred in 1955, 1974 and 1992, accompanied by extreme weather conditions. Also, the earthquake in Indonesia which had a magnitude of 9.0 was acompanied by a supermoon. it would seem that not every supermoon causes major events like this however so i would think the whole thing is still a theory. bottom line is it may cause earthquakes and extreme weather, or it may not. |

on the one hand, VAT went up in the UK, the nation is in recession, things are financialy hard in the UK, people (Including me) are being made redundant and those that still have jobs are worried about losing theirs, yet we still need to keep a roof over our heads and food in the mouths of our families. giving away money for aid will make things harder in the UK cuz ultimaely, its our money the government will give away. on the other hand, people have died, and no doubt more will die. you cant put a price on human life. and lets face it, if you're gonna die, having half a building fall on you, or a wave the size of a block of flats is a terrifying way to go. and the cost of making the countries affected by the earthquake/tsunami livable again is going to be astronomical. i dont mean to tell you two or anyone else who jumps in on this arguement what to do or say, but i think this is an aruement best left un-debated. lets all just think about the people who have lost their livelyhood, lost their friends and family members. if people want to say a prayer tonight, donate money, or do whatever they can or feel they should do to help, then do that behind closed doors. we're all still alive, and in a country not directly affected by todays events. we are lucky, lets just think about those who are not. |

But i was affected by the Thai one and lost 5 friends from it and even went out there and helped a few people i have known for years...
I know thats not the same as this but i have seen the devastation this kind of thing creates at first hand im sorry but if you think by not sending aid and helping is going to help us or put more money in our pockets then your Cuckoo

opinions that are being debated, and by one person indirectly affected by a similar event in the past, hence why i feel it will not change anyones oppinion and just cause friction between the two of you and whoever else jumps in.
just because you can do something, does not mean you have to. no one needs to debate the question of giving aid. the government will give aid, people who feel they need to dnate money will do so, debating it now will not change that and will just cause friction between members of opposing views. once again, i say lets just think about those who have lost their lives and those still living that are afected by it. |
#34
|

and just to point out, you have both given your oppinions, anything further on the matter is an arguement/debate on the subject

Radiation readings in the areas around that nuclear reactor are now 1000 times higher than normal as well, not good edit/ well thats what was reported on Sky, other places saying its 1000 times higher inside the reactor buildings, but 'some' leakage to outside areas. Media confusion as usual i guess..... Last edited by Steve_PPP; 12-03-2011 at 12:05 AM. |

Dont think is just the film fella, a few years ago there was a thing on the mihan calender and a look into their civilisation, everything on the calender they predicted has been correct and come true, they say the world will end in a massive natural disaster on 21-12-12, But it could be a coinsidence as thats when the calender ends and so far ever "end of the world" prediction hasnt come true so who knows what will happen.

(CNN) -- The powerful earthquake that unleashed a devastating tsunami Friday appears to have moved the main island of Japan by 8 feet (2.4 meters) and shifted the Earth on its axis.
"At this point, we know that one GPS station moved (8 feet), and we have seen a map from GSI (Geospatial Information Authority) in Japan showing the pattern of shift over a large area is consistent with about that much shift of the land mass," said Kenneth Hudnut, a geophysicist with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Reports from the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology in Italy estimated the 8.9-magnitude quake shifted the planet on its axis by nearly 4 inches (10 centimeters). Bugger me!!!!
