Default SES Trackday, Brands Hatch Indy Circuit - Monday 5th August

I've had a few queries about when we were going to organise another Brands trackday as its been a while (over 2 years!) since our last one there. So, here it is folks!

Dates at Brands Hatch are very limited unless you want to spend several hundred quid for a full day session, so this is the best option - and its the only evening like this that I can see available for the next few months. There are two types of session on the same evening.

Option 1 - Up to 3 x 20 minute TASTER SESSIONS
- A 20 minute session, starting with a couple of laps behind a pace car to get a feel for the circuit.
- These sessions are aimed at trackday newbies/novices. You can only book onto the taster sessions if you have done a maximum of 3 trackdays before.
- £25 per session, book either 1, 2 or 3 depending on how much you want to do.
- http://www.msvtrackdays.com/car-home...productid=2000 (please don't click on the RCZ sessions )

Option 2 - 4 x 20 minute STANDARD SESSIONS
- 4 sessions spread across the evening. All class/experience of drivers allowed.
- Cars must still be road legal, no slicks.
- £99 for the evening.

All sessions are limited to 102db.

The great thing about an evening like this is that everyone from the club can get down to Brands for some fun on the same evening. The sessions alternate so novices can go on track, then let the car cool down whilst the other sessions go out on circuit.

All bookings are to be made direct via the ClubMSV website, on a first come, first served basis. Each session is normally limited to 20 cars. Please add your names to the lists below for what you want to do, and add '(Booked)' to your name when you have paid. This really is a great way of getting your scoob out on track and having a bit of fun without spending a fortune Please add yourself to the lists below for what you want to do, and hopefully we'll get a good group together for the evening

Some good interest already I expect Moley will be interested too as was chatting to him about doing a Brands session when i was on the phone to him last time.

I'll give Brands a call later to find out how full the sessions currently are and whether we need to rush bookings to get it.

Sam,

There's not a 3 place limit on each taster session, that just all I put in the post at the time - you can do all 3 if you want. The sessions are limited to 20 cars in total, but other clubs/individuals can obviously book into them too via the Brands Hatch website.

Thats a shame guys. Unfortunately these mixed session evenings don't crop up often so there's no other date options.

I've just spoken to the previous owner of my Type R and, although he never had it tested, he doesn't think it will pass the 102db noise test

Any suggestions? As above, how do I go about getting it tested as I don't want to pay in advance and get turned away because the exhaust is too loud

If its a oe style flange on the rear box there may be a ppp box in circulation to boz.

I'm no exhaust expert but I don't think it would pass. I've got an afterburner tail pipe, de-resonated center section with two cats, hopefully I should just pass lol.

With regards to where to get it tested, isn't db testing part of the mot?? so any mot tester could check (I could be wrong though)

He means if you've got a standard 2.5" flange where the backbox meets the centre section, there might be a prodrive backbox floating around that you could borrow. Would bring the noise down to well under 102db

Afaik, although noise is a consideration for MOT, they don't test for it. Its just whether the tester deems it to be 'excessively' loud i think?

Noise testing is a bit random though. With my current setup, i've been tested at Goodwood at 101db, 97db and 95db. At Brands i've been tested twice and the readings were different again (both times in the 90's). Looking at the exhaust in the photo, i doubt it would pass though....

take a trip to a track day and ask them if they would test you as you are thinking of doing one.

Where abouts do you live? If you live near a circuit you can pop down during the day and they will test it for you, alternatively you can get a very good idea with an spl meter app on an iPhone + a friend sitting in the car holding the revs steady at about 4700/5400 rpm, measure about 1 metre from the exhaust and at 45 degrees above or to the side. Had results within 2db of calibrated proper kit

I live in Orpington, so Brands Hatch isn't too far away. I'll ask at my local garage as I know them. SPL meter app may also be possible.

As for the standard 2.5" flange, I'm not sure about that, but I don't think it oscillates

Thanks for the suggestions guys

The back box is slip jointed, so you will need a decat back exhaust for track days

Not using the M3? Still, fair bit less weight in the Elise though

Is it still standard or have you been tinkering with that too?

Sure there'll be the option for the odd passenger ride too for some of the spectators if they bring a bash hat

Ill happily chip in the cost of some track time or fuel for a passenger ride, ill bring my hat and see how the eve pans out.

Can highly recommend a trip out with Steve after I experienced a passenger ride at goodwood.
