It is a stunning place. I would recommend it to anyone

The second pic is taken from the patio of our bungalow. Not a bad sight to greet you when you open the curtains in the morning.

Nice pics Steve, we went to Sun Island in the Maldives for our honeymoon in 2007, it was the most amazing place i have ever been to, we stayed in a water bungalow on stilts in the sea, it is paradise.
The lightning picture is awesome!!
Which island did you stay on?

We went for a short transfer of 20mins by boat from Male.

Really happy with everything we had there, but really wish I had the chance to take pictures from the air. I did put down for an arial photo trip, but the numbers never got up to enough people to make it viable.

Oh well, gives me the reason to go back some day!

Mate, it was fantastic. The sharks were amazing, the pic I posted was only a 2ft one and that was no more than 10ft from the shoreline. I have got pics of 6-7ft ones, those you don't mess about with. The things we saw were staggering though. The shark feeding was something else, I will try and post the video this weekend when I get it all processed.

That's all the lightning pics. Never tried photographing lightning before, so it was very much an experiment. Lots of shots taken and lots of mistakes until I got the right formula. I would have got some more but it really started to get quite close and was starting to chuck it down big time, so decided to go in before I fried myself!

Cheers y'all!

As Rob will vouch, it is simply stunning. And if all the projections of doom are correct they will only be there for another 25 years. It's not cheap and it's a bleedin long flight (10 hours going out & 12 hours coming back ) but it is seriously worth it.

Steve, invest in a polarizer filter, they screw into the end of the lens, I also always use a UV Filter which I have on the end of every lens I own, the polarizer will then screw on top of that. That will give you the depth of blues you want in the sky and will also reduce the glare on the water, without having to resort to photoshop to bolster the colours. I also used an ND4 Graduated Tint Cokin Filter on the Sunset. The only amends I have made to the pics is to straighten, crop and adjust levels, thats it.

Baz, St Lucia is lovely. We stayed at the Wyndham Morgan Bay (think it's changed it's name though) and it was spot on. We did a couple of really good trips while we were there, One was the bus ride through the island and then getting the catamaran back round the island, another was the "Sulpher Mines" which is basically an open volcano and you really should do the Chocolate tour where you visit a Cocoa Bean plantation. You will both love it.

We snorkeled and dived alot when in the Maldives, you do see the sharks but they stay away from you. The bigger ones come in when it gets dark. We saw, Eagle Rays, Dolphins, Sting Rays, Moray Eels, Tuna, Barracuda, Sharks, Octopus, Flying Fish, Lion Fish, Puffer Fish etc, it is amazing.
The wife and i are qualified scuba divers but in the Maldives you can see just as much snorkelling on the reefs.

It IS a stunning place. If you want a holiday where you don't see your shoes between the day you arrive and the day you depart, this is it!

As Steve said, you better get saving quick as the islands are gradually disappearing into the sea If I could go back tomorrow, I would!

It's not too bad a flight if you stage it. First time I went, we flew direct and it was a mare. Second time, we stopped in Qatar, had the chance for a shower and refreshments... was fantastic! (And the duty free shops were great value for money!)

Just to rub salt in the wound for Steve, I'll see if I can get my Seaplane VidClip uploaded so he can see what he missed! The pilots are mostly Canadian or South African bush pilots and COMPLETELY mad!

Nice pics Steve.

I've had the pleasure of going to the Maldives twice. Once with Gill as a 'buddy' on standby in her Caledonian days (£75 return + about £100 in beers and food while down there for the week!) and then for our honeymoon in 2001.

Stayed in Paradise Island near Male the first time and then at Coco Palm up in the North Atol the second.

It truly is a stunning place.

Rich - if you see the 555 plate out there - buy it! I am sure the Squadron Leader will set up a base there, as well as in the Maldives, for a bit of R&R for us pilots......................

I will do my best to hunt it down sir. Could you imagine buying that, a triple 5 plate, and bringing it back how jealous would so many scooby drivers be. Thinking about it someone must have it somewhere!!!

Thanks matey. It is a stunning place.

It wasn't the cheapest holiday we have ever had thats for sure But, ultimately worth every penny.

With the flight upgrade (First Choice is only £200.00 per person) it came to just under £5k.

And it only last 2 weeks!

Saying that though, your a long time dead. And we have some fantastic memories. It is a fantastic holiday but isn't cheap.

I think there are cheaper islands but on the same token there are some vastly more expensive ones too. Our one was pretty middle of the pack price wise.

Reflected in that was the fact the snorkelling and diving is not as good at this island as many others but everything else (food/service etc) was really good.

I think there are cheaper islands but on the same token there are some vastly more expensive ones too. Our one was pretty middle of the pack price wise.

Reflected in that was the fact the snorkelling and diving is not as good at this island as many others but everything else (food/service etc) was really good.

So to sum it up:

You've had a great time.

The wallet has shrunk and the BELLY GROWN.

Mostly yes!

I actually lost weight on holiday. Because of the humidity (70% - 80%) you sweat profusely. I was drinking probably 5 litres of water a day plus the 10 or so beers and neber went more than 3 times in a day!

I hasten to add though, since I have returned home, the weight is going back on

Thanks matey. It is a stunning place.

It wasn't the cheapest holiday we have ever had thats for sure But, ultimately worth every penny.

With the flight upgrade (First Choice is only £200.00 per person) it came to just under £5k.
