Question Downpipe question...

Hi,

I am thinking of changind the downpipe on my hawkeye wrx. The engine let go yesterday, typical ring land failure, and is going to API for a rebuild, so now would seem a good time to do it...

Options for the hawk seem a bit more limited than the other newage cars, but I was thinking of replacing the downpipe and 2nd decat I have with a single downpipe sports cat...

However in the garage I still have the 2nd cat - anyone now wether the car would pass it's mot with a decat downpipe, and the 2nd cat put back in place??

Thanks,

J.

Hi lupuss, sorry to hear about the engine. Damn those 2.5's eh....

Every car is different with emissions, but I reckon you'd be lucky for it to pass an MOT with the 2nd cat and a decat downpipe, i have a feeling the 2nd cat is much smaller than the one in the downpipe?

Sorry to hear about the engine dude,

Why not get rid of the cats completely, If your having a rebuild engine done then perhaps get a full 3" system (turbo back) also remove the up-pipe cat and get a nice remap? .. come MOT time simply fit the downpipe cat or find a "friendly" MoT center?

Tell me about it!! Wish I had a 2l engine instead, they seem much stronger...

I thought that might be the case with the downpipe, was wondering wether I could get away with it...

The car was using a lot of oil, but no smoke... Stuart @ ESMS did a leakdown test for me which confirmed the problem, then cylinder 2 let go yesterday on the way to work yesterday

Got to use the bus for 4 weeks now

yes, that was my understanding too....
I'd rather stick with a cat to avoid hastle at MOT time tbh - I'm not terribly mechanicaly minded!

Sorry to hear the news but why API ?
There are other more local people/places that could do the same/better.

I'm running a full Miltek system on my 2.5 with only a centre section sports cat. 100% MOT pass rate, (when warm) at 3 different garages.
