Default Mini faster than scooby??

I've just become a member on a Mini forum after buying my cooper s and some of the members on it have started a thread to state what cars they have outrun in there Minis. After reading through them I noticed a lot of them are claiming they have left impreza Sti's for dust, I can't see this. I have now started a heated debate as I've posted a comment saying that I don't believe this and that My old Sti would make mince meat out of my cooper s and even when I went up against the works edition in my impreza I left them standing.
I even drove a 250bhp mini last week and that didn't feel as quick as my old scooby!
Has anyone on here had any experiences of being left behind by a mini?
I'm talking about the late BMW ones by the way

they probably did a 200BHP WRX or something that was a bit tired n the driver wasnt really trying. so they claim its an STI for their ego

LOL, they only need to look at the figures to know whats what. I had a cooper S for a while and it was a great car, really chuckable and actually gave far more confidence than my Sti does sometimes, but basically because its smaller and going alot slower. Trouble is there will always be someone claiming they have 'done' something faster. Which reminds me, coming home tonight, and blitzed a veyron off the lights. Was well pleased until a cooper s did the pair of us

taken from here

"From the 2006 Mini Cooper Owner's Manual, Data Section, Weights: Mini
Curb weight, with all optional special equipment Mini Cooper with manual transmission 2,524/1,145 lbs/kg automatic transmission with Steptronic 2,557/1,160 lbs/kg"

so 250bhp divided by 1.16 = 215bhp per tonn

scoob is about 1250kg so 215bhp times 1.25 = 268bhp, menaing a scoob weighing in at 1250kg (1.25 ton) would need in excess of 268bhp to have a better power to weight ratio than a mini.
at 280bhp, a scoob weighing 1.25ton has a power to weight ratio of 224bhp per ton

and lets not forget that most scoobs are imports with low ratio boxes which makes the power to weight ratio thing worthless anyways.

2 cars with the same power to weight ratio but different gearing will mean one is faster thanthe other.

the real question should be what are the box ratios compared to eachother. what is the 0-60mph times, and the 60-100mph times, and finaly how tubby is the mini driver now the thing is an oversized blob bearing no resemblence to the original mini concept ! (Lardy butt cheeks kill the BHP/ton figures)

This is my GL

It's easy to see how an outsider would think they have "done" an STi / WRX off the lights, when in reality they have not even been up against a turbo'd car...

that link gives a best 0-60 of 6.1 seconds.
a classic RA will do it in 4.5 seconds.
other classics will do it in 5.1 and 5.9, so we still win !

http://www.mini.co.uk/model-range/hatch/mini-cooper-s/ states that Cooper S has 184 bhp as standard
Thus 161 bhp/tonne

Standard UK Impreza with 215 bhp = 172 BHP/tonne….

I think with a 3" screw on rear silencer trim and a alloy gear knob from Halfords they also beat the latest GTR.

My mate had a 2003 cooper s but it had some blue bage on the back (some limited edition) when mine was completly standard and i left him for dust, not to mention i had a full car and a sub box in the boot...

They are quick little things, but not when compared to a Scoob.. Sorry to say..

I drove a Cooper S Hartge a few years ago, and it was nowhere near as quick as an STi.
However, on one occasion I came across what looked like a rally prepped classic mini as I drove up the hill into Seaford (from Brighton) where I am in the habit of booting it a bit.

Couldn't shake the blighter off

Nothing crap about German cars. we spend every year trying our best to catch them. In fact every other car maker out there is trying to catch them.

How many jap cars handle like German cars in general? 0 to 60 just gets you past the start line. You have the rest of the track to do then. :EVO:

A British racing green Cooper S with a b&w chq roof had a go against me away from the lights at North Farm the other week.

I appreciate I have 431 bhp per ton but I can still get some idea of what cars are like and it certainly didn't look quick in my mirror.

Another case of forum bull5hit mate.

Oh shut up James!!!
http://www.evo.co.uk/news/evonews/25...ng_record.html

The point is when we go thats what we chase. BMW even put there cars there to be chased & to prove how good they are. What im saying is there not crap! Skullfudge you bully picking on a mini. I never bother unless its somthing worth the petrol. The saxo & corsa forums must have claims of how they pissed an Evo-Scoob of in my area. They always chase me the little beggers. :EVO:

Most Lambo's. all Bugatti's, A few Audi's & some porkers. Then you have M3's & M5's + 1M all quite close. Std Scoobs wont live with them after 80mph ish. In fact its only the 350 + Jap cars that can really due to the power levels of the German stuff. M3's 400+ M5's 500+ 1M's times are the same as an M3. All very fast most handle well out the box. Then you have the Audi cocks i mean cars. Again Rs this & that are all big power cars. None are rubbish are they? We tune our rice rockets to sit with these cars & get a good chance of taking on a Lambo or a ferrari {i dont mean around the streets eighther}. On track or autobhan were ther trying just as hard as you. Personly i dont care what it is! im haveing a go 500bhp+ & my car handles. Puts the biggest smile on my face when i can out perform or out handle something with an expensive badge on it. Dont get me wrong i love the idea of rice rockets. I also respect the the German stuff though.
Sorry off topic no a std Mini Cooper s isnt going to beat a std Scoob off the mark.
Worzel can you remember one year we watched a load of mini's flying around the Ring? We said then how planted they look. I know some of the tuned mini's are now at the 300bhp mark. Must be fun:bump:

Over 80mph is really handy in this country Nige.... How many times a year do we drive on the auto bahn.... Oh that's right about 4 hours in total each year... Better go get a RS4 for those 4 hours

Haha I love a debate

Back to the mini part of the thread... They are a very nimble car in the corner, I was surprised how much I could throw it into corners for a standard car, much like the Clio 16v's

Na not even a WRX i had a midi (will it aint a mini is it) copper s give it billy big ******** the other day and he didnt last long even in my 200bhp wrx.

i did know of one mini that would biltz most scoobie's in fact it would make most things look stupid including nobles and other hi end cars and would give bikes a good run for their money too. but this was an old shape mini with teh roof chopped running a tunned lotus elsie engine bike throttle bodies and weighted about as much as a packet of rizla. dont know the exact figures but it is stil to this day the quickest car i have ever been in, but fook having a smack in it as it would have just folded up like a shoe box.

This Mini would prob take some beating, the place that fitted a smaller pulley to my Mini own/race this. It's got 473bhp, has run 11.5 at Santa pod and can get around brandshatch in 53secs (I guess that's fast?)

lol anything could be faster than anything else if the other person isnt even trying lol

Speaking of bmw's (sorry i refuse to call it a mini because it isnt and imo has ruined the mini name) i saw one of those ones with the "backwards baseball cap" and it just looks wrong, all it needs is a set of eye lashes to complete the chav look lol

I dont mean any offence with the above bmw coment, i actually think there really good cars espically the cooper s's, my mate let me have a go in his and i was really suprised at how much i enjoyed it and how nippy it was, but imo i think they should of called it something else

yeah, like lardy.

i;m with you on the mini thing. the mini was a concept that the original cars lived up to. these new fat bloated things remind me of a fat cross dresser for some reason (Just need the eyelashes like you said). too big to be what they are trying to be !

53sec laps is quick. My Evo with less power than that mini on the last Brands track day was doing it in 56.01 sec. :EVO:
