Default ticking / grindng noise

was driving home this morning and the car started making some worrrying noises, dosent seem to be the gearbox as does the same in neutral, gets worse as you rev.

engine management light has come on and car starts juddering badly after about 4000rpm.

i have a feeling this could be expensive! any ideas? gonna book into culverwells later.

Nah I'm not driving, getting it recovered there, thinking bottom end bearing, which I hear is seriously major!

Not sure that sounds like bottom end - mine didn't grind just banged like hell - turbo maybe?
