205 GTI would of been a good choice if there is one still going 😀

Really poor episode to start the series.

Hopefully next week will be better, looking forward to the review of the McLaren P1.

I find the 1st of a series is always borderline......

I wish they had picked some better and tidier hot hatches of the 80's and done a real comparison. For those of us that started driving in the 80's it would of been a much better episode.

I would of preferred :
Escort RS Turbo (but would of settled for a 1984 XR3i)
Peugeot 205 GTi
Renault 5 Turbo
Astra GTE

Forget the Golf, as that's been done to death.....

I was looking forwards to this one as my first proper car was an 8v Golf Gti (all be it a 1990) and I still regret selling it!

Well my 11 year old is sitting here wetting himself and even I had a giggle last night. Missed what the budget was but be surprised if you can find any of the above that still have an MOT and can be driven for under £1k, saying that, there was a very clean Mk4 xr3i convertible for £950 on Piston Heads last week.

All good choices but they seem to think we want to see them trashing motors, I was looking forward to a real comparison as well when the program started but it wasn't to be....

There was a UK one at Spa when we where there, guys had driven it from Brum I think!

I would have liked to have seen astra GTE mk1 and mk2 + fiesta RS Turbo, + 205/309 GTI , Renault 5GT Turbo.

There have been quite a few episodes that have really got my wick up, I think the India special really wound me up when they destroyed a really nice works cooper special

I'm marque biased, but the P1 is easily my fave of the new hybrid supercars, I was a bit disappointed that there was no hot lap this week.

Top Gear seem to confirm what everyone else is saying though: the P1 is funking fast!

Not sure on the 4C. Would prefer an S2 Exige myself.

Watched the last couple of episodes on catch up when I've had a chance, the P1 looks stunning, really pushing automotive technology forward. The Alfa looks pretty good too, can't imagine how much that would grip on sticky tyres weighing less than a tonne

This weeks episode was alright, but who in their right mind would shell out £17k for a Fiesta?!?

I still like watching Top Gear, but it is no longer the "must see" TV it used to be. This series has had a few moments, but the challenges that I have enjoyed have either gone too far (the 80's hatchbacks) or seemed like a missed opportunity (drive round Chernobyl). The P1 was awesome, but I guess that was as much the car as it was the program!
