And rich said there wasn't much point fitting baffled sump and new oil pump until I decide to refresh the engine (I should have thought of that before buying it I guess)....

You could say thats x2 parts ticked off the list when doing a refresh build so you could always put them in storage up in the loft or in the garage for when the time is ready

Yeah that's what Rich suggested...tbh I wasn't planning on doing an engine rebuild but............ if I have the cash towards the end of the year I may go 2.1 stroker and do head gaskets and upgraded studs for peace of mind and have it all
Fitted then.. if not, I'll just have them fitted in a few months... depends how impatient I get pmsl! I mean - I'm not impulsive at all........................Not a word Mr Rob!

Yeah I know it's annoying that one wheel! Ha ha

Did it just after I got them as well (few pages back in project thread).

Trouble is speedline don't do some of the stickers now - so if I have the one wheel refurbished it would be stickerless - which will annoy me. My mate is trying to make me a set (sign writer) and if he can match them I'll get it off to lepsons.

Rest of the wheels are fine

Wasn't really giving it a thought - my engine is well maintained and runs with no issues (that I know of!).

I bought the sump and pump to try and safeguard and ensure the engine will last for many more years- however rich has a valid point in that it may be better to hang on to them and plan to refurbish the engine rather than bolt new bits onto a 15yrs old engine.

It's a tough decision and like I said depends how impatient I get pmsl!

Yeah if I refurb I'll go RCM or Lateral 2.1 stroker + head gaskets and updated studs etc

Although turbo I have is only rated to 380bhp which is why I wasn't planning on upgrading engine really.

But to me, as has always been my moto with this car, the foundations have to be strong and solid

Why rebuild ? Your Engine can take 450hp easily?
The sti bug was made very strong unless your looking for 500hp+ ?

If your engine is fine then i'd just fit the sump/oil pump/cam belt and enjoy it. Personally don't see the point spending a fortune on a build when the STI7 engine is a good'un anyway and will be fine for the power your turbo can run...

Nice work with the ksports though guys, they look great

Yes I agree with all your comments - as I mentioned, it was a suggestion of Rich that I wait encase I wanted to refresh the engine. This was mainly because I had thoughts to do the head gaskets towards the end of the year, again not because they are failing, but just for peace of mind. Although rich said if not failing then leave as are which again is sensible so again I'll prob just get the sump and pump fitted anyway

Timing belt will be end next year as was only done 2yrs / 4500 miles ago....my aim is to do its every 3-4yrs for peace of mind... (yes overkill I appreciate)

Nice bunch of parts you got there bud, looks good.
I quite like what dave did with his ie. Changed the engine for a jdm. Think ill do the same once mine starts playing up. Done a few track days with the Ksport now and they seem to be fine so far. Good luck. =)

The head gaskets are good On these so no need to safe guard ,
The pump and baffle is spot on. Concentrate on good breathing mods along with a good map and suspension and save some penny's.

RCM induction kit and Sc38 turbo going on 30th May along with map tweak so that's all good

Suspension is ok and exhaust, up-pipe, headers are all either 3" or ported so all good

Good move!

What injectors are you using ? Along with pump? as that blower will be on the max of a stock fuel set up.

370/380hp will be more than enough set up pal if your planning on tracking it.
You will be really impressed .

Ginolas set up is one to watch /speak to if you get the track bug lol

Yeah Daves car is amazing - always keep up to date with that...

Tbh I'm not a trackie, but will try and do a few during the year.

Running standard pink injectors but 290ltr fuel pump...

If funds are there I'd advise making them larger more of a safe guard or at least adj fuel reg to squeeze the max out of them ,
But a sc38 will make them run at 100%. A 3port bcs too (prodrive did one that isn't expensive at all)

That's just my 2p's thoughts tho fella ,

Donlove a good bug tho huge soft spot for them

Well what a day.... Poor Rich @ FB Tuning isn't going to want to see my car again for a very long time!!

Day started with bottom up-pipe to turbo bolt seizing rock solid! Much cursing, blow torch heat, long bars, cutting tools, more swearing later, he finally gets it off the car.

Oil and coolant drained and turbo then comes off... besides the usual minuscule hairline crack on the wastegate Rich says it's good to go so will be up for sale later on

New turbo gets lined up to find the company have sent me the lovely shiny braided oil pipe for the turbo to a classic! Grrrrrrrr

Some fettling later and Rich manages to get the old one on the new turbo.

Then the induction kit goes on and new 2.7-bar MAP sensor...

Much time is then spent persuading my hoses to go where they should and after much more cursing and swearing, Rich manages to get them on where they should be

Whilst the car is up on the ramps Rich notices my exhaust is blowing in two places and also that my top modine seal was weeping, so I need to order that up shortly...

Fresh Motul 300v and Motul Inugel Expert coolant in, and she fires up...

After coming back twice (boost hose split then OBD kept losing connection mid run) Rich finally manages to work his magic on the ECU and I'm good to go!

Didn't make it to Charlie's (SRR) in the end but Rich seemed happy enough with the power and the drive home felt smooth.

The RCM induction kit is extremely loud - it sounds like you are going to suck in the car in the next lane and has also made the dump valve less tweety bird (hope ur happy scotty!) and more giant eagle with a very firm and loud dmmmmppphhhhh!!! (Yes that's how it's sounds! Pmsl!!)

Only other niggle I saw was one of my rear drop links has severely worn against the ARB and I cannot fathom out why or how so this will need addressing next with the modine seal...

Some pics....

Big thanks to Rich and I promise not to bring the car back.............................................. ..........................for a month or two!

Could it just be that the Eibach ARB is too fat for the Whiteline drop links, if I could be arsed to get mine out of the garage I'd check my whiteline ARB width, it was second hand so not sure if it's 22mm or 24mm but I have the same drop links.

Can't wait to sample the noise and to take a look at the newly homed snail under the bonnet.

Interested to know exactly why the arb and drop link became such good friends, Shane might be on to something with his idea.

How long until we get a photo of some new injectors is my next feeling...

Does look like something has shifted, other possibility is the stiffer bar has twisted the mounts, Perrin and Whiteline did a stronger mount to stop that happening.

The quickest way to see if your arb has moved is look at the arb bushes they would leave a mark where they were orignally and if the arb has moved you would see the mark clearly .

Some nice upgrades on this car Ryan, well done.
Have you tried using lateral locks for the arb? I know they stop them moving side to side. 😊

Thanks All,

looking again at the pics it seems as though the bush has disintergrated. The pic of the OK one shows a rubber bush between the ARB and the Droplink, however the knacked one doesn't, and looking at the state of the one on the left, I think its probably worn away and hence now metal on metal.

Alyn - looks like Ill be giving you a call later this morning

My Whiteline ones are polybushed rather than rubber.
