It doesn't concern me too much as:

1. I never had any issues with the hawk.

2. The new one will be either a 3 year lease or a PCP so will be warrantied so by the end of the 3 year period we will know whether the same issues affect it.

I really wish subaru had put an all new engine in it but they haven't. So the choice I am left with is to run with it or abandon the make altogether and go German..

For me, if it drives as I hope it does then I am happy to stick with it.

Who knows if they have changed internals or not?

If they publicise it as they have, then it's an admission that there was a fault with the old internals...... Would expect this one to have been looked at a bit more diligently, given the complaints, feedback, concerns relating to the old engine?

The more I look at the new one the more I'm liking it

The new one will come with a 3 year warranty, so if it goes goes bang it should not be a problem....

Does Japan get a nice twinscroll 2.0 with forged internals and an 8.2k rpm limit again?.... but... 1542kg... its 100kg heavier than a blob!

Yep, japan has a higher output version of the 2.0 direct injection engine that is in the new wrx. It seems Europe and the states get the 2.5 again.

I'm having a test drive via Cullverwells. I have asked is it as bad as the hatch for quality" they said not a clue but what can you expect for the money. Tippicle Culverwells really. I put my bug & Hawk way, way, way in front of the hatch. In fact it was the worst car quality wise I've ever owned. At the same time one of the best cars I've owned for pure fun on track. As some of you know for a 34k car it had 3 engines. As the paperwork states Subaru are not at fault!!!!! Uh ********! Pistons & head gaskets are pure ****e. Massive arguments with Subaru over engine by previous owner. Took months to sort out. Owner never got an apology or a curtesy car. Even though it was under a Subaru warranty. Take a look on any of the major Scoob forums there really are that bad. Forge it then your ok. It's really a Subaru kit car. You buy it then build it yourself. At my last Ring trip there was a very excited Italian guy who's hatch/salloon had blown up on it 2nd lap. It had done approx 9k mileage wise. I really hope the new car has had some engine mods to help it sell + the interior must of improved as they couldn't get any worse. I have a BMW now so some of you may think I'm just slagging Scoobs off. I have letters written by the 1st lady owner of the hatch I had pleading with Subaru uk. Considering the car was only 7 months old had its inspection & service done by the dealer who she had bought the car off. She was asking for a courtesy car & (Subaru were refusing this by the way) she needed a car for her work. The engine had gone due to piston ring failure at 8k miles. She paid for the work to be done herself nearly£4k she did however get this back 3 months later. She was so disgusted with the hatch she sold it back to Subaru for £13250 remember this car cost her £28k. Dave then bought it & it went bang again ( head gaskets) it was then ok for a while then Ringland failure. That's when I bought it. I bought it without seeing it & had forged internals put to it. Just to try & make it safe. Without a dought the worst car I've ever bought. Cheep interior crap on the road mainly due to the steering. Putting 888's on it running 28psi gave it some sort of feel. Will try the new one & see what Cullverwells say about the warranty. Is it just an Evo x lookalike though? JRM were my Evo was built. James has bought quite a few of these. Not sure what engine are in them as yet. I will find out though. If he's done the same deal as he did with the Evo X then the Scoobs will be twinscroll 2litre.

Oh James will be cheaper than a main stealer to!

Culverwells have said they would call me when they have one in. They expect it to be mid May. Like nige though, they couldn't tell me anything about it as they haven't been told much by subaru (nothing changes there then!). At the moment they can't even tell me roughly where it will be on finance as there are no residuals set.

No Dave. I won't order one until I drive one. What I've seen so far I like but if it's lost any of its harshness that the blob/hawk have then it may force me to rethink it and get another hawk and then lease a run around for work. Ideally I want a new one as I can run it through work and I'd rather use it than have it sit in the garage. Really hoping its good to drive though.

A bit of a brief test against the Golf R. It still seems that despite the obvious quality differences etc the golf remains a bit souless compared to the sti. I will be driving both soon so will give my own 'clarkson review' !!

Saw one in the flesh at Castle Combe yesterday. Better than I thought, like the front but the rear still looks like a Mondeo. Not as bulky as I thought it would be either.

First thoughts are wheels need to be bigger diameter and deeper dish i.e 19's but there's plenty of width.
Your pockets will need to be deep for tyres as it's running 245's as standard.

Underneath it's pretty much the same as the outgoing saloon 2.5 STi.

Interior dash is nice with LCD display and carbon.

Seats have nice trim but they have cut back on quality and removed the Recaro's that were in the last saloon.

Overall, it's a nice car....but for me it's just a nice car and £28,000 can buy a whole lot better elsewhere on the nearly new market.

I'd rather spend £15,000 on something more interesting and keep £13,000 in my pocket.

And, I am thinking exactly the way you are about it at the moment. Nice blob/hawk for the garage and then lease a 'run around' for work. I have been quoted around £450 a month to lease a new Sti bonkers money, particularly when Golf 'R''s are appearing around £300!!! Not that I want one of those but it's a massive difference for a comparable car.

When we started the new one yesterday I thought it sounded quite nice.

The look is evo esk but with the new laws having to be pedestrian friendly i suppose it is inevitable.

I think they look really good in the flesh. I'm sure there's a slight burble but guess the manifold is now more equal length. Well rated by the motoring press too.
