A couple of mates have evos, one being a 4 rs and another the mr, ive been in and driven the rs seen it on ramps ect id say the rs has been built alot better than the scoob but dosent handle as good! both scoob and evo being standard! i found my scoob alot more lively than the evo 1st 2nd ect i wouldnt mind having one myself mate but cant beat the sound of a flat for unless its a v8 audi rs id be happy with most jap turbos!! id even like to own a white glanza one day!!

The 4 suffer with crank i believe??, but that's a good summary of them, my best mate has an Evo 8 pushed 339hp and my bug is exact same pace not a inch in them both, i find is a little hard ride but is on Tiens, seats are more comfty and dash is nice but like i said not fused on performance just day to day and reliability as we all know v1-6 subbys will at some point die on stock internals, and love my bug for day to day and isn't really slow either but feels not raw enough so that's what got me thinking of an late classic 5/6
was offered a really nice v5 type r with some cash for my bug but was runing 370hp on stock intestines so put me of as thats a ticking time bomb having spun shells on two wrxs im allways little cautious

Look for a fresh import or one that was undersealed straight away, prob is people cover rust with underseal to hide problems

i think the 4g63 is such a strong engine standard...they can take more before you need to forge....

I a 4 in 2008 which was my pride and joy. was a minter and made me smile every time I looked at her.

Was gutted when it went. After doing my homework I found out it had a 9 bottom end and a 6 turbo was running around 340bhp. was on cusco legs, fujitsubo exhaust......etc.

Then in 2011 I had this.....

I
I
I loved this. gems ecu, 380 bhp tommi mak 6 engine, evo 8mr turbo handled like nothing else ive driven. It was very low with no body roll at all.

In my honest opinion. Evos are aggressive from the offset. 1500-2000rpm it wants to go then the turbo kicks in. Scoobs are less aggressive until the turbo kicks in. handling depends on setup bubt pretty similar imo.

I think they are great cars and not much in it. Both awd and rally cars for the road, both easily modified, both jap, both.......blah blah blah.
If I had no children I would have one of each and choose which one to drive dependant on what mood im in on the day.

^ was imported by RCM in 1999, spent most of its life in Scotland so was a complete rust bucket even though it had a undercoat, which was worn away hence why it isn't still in my possession......4 was mint but very very well looked after.

Like any cars that are getting on for 15yrs old
Oh I can dream

Hi Benji,

Guess what.... I've also had a Evo5, 7 and 8, in various states of tune. Great Cars, Loved all the models and the handling on the very edge of traction with its AYC is amazing. They can happily be driven by the playstation age or people with very little skill and the car will get them out of trouble. Push them to them, to what you think might be the limit then push beyond even harder and they just tuck in, correct everything and you will come away thinking how the hell did I get away with that.

Great cars and do like the fact you will probably see 50 scoobs on the road before you see and EVO, and there is always mutual respect between genuine Scoob and Evo enthusiasts. But They are more hard core to live with day to day, and they are very much of the same DNA, but the Scoob parts, servicing, repairs and knowledge base if allot more forthcoming and yet it is pretty much the same car. You you have to mod the scoob more than the Evo to get the power, but turbo's and Injectors upgrade etc on Scoob are relatively cheap and easy to come by.

And as above I would agree ALL the Evo ranges tend to suffer from rust a little more than Scoobs. Also It's going to cost you a fair more to get into an Evo or similar age not matter what derivative you are looking at, and I doubt its going to feel different enough or unlikely to push your buttons much more than you current car.

I've been having a good look at Evo 6's in the last few days, sorely tempted.

I'm buying a house this year, and just thinking I can strip mine for decent money, and buy an Evo and chuck the rest towards the house deposit.

(Or stay where we are now and have the Impreza and the Evo, but don't tell the Mrs this plan, lol)

Few small mods to the Evo to get it the same as this.....

I did like my 8, here is a pic or 2. Not Many cars I've not owned or tried, some better than others, but I don't regret any of them and have all been fun in one way or another. There have Been a few that have stood out from the rest though. Sadly these days I have to be a little more sensible, but at least if I dropped dead tomorrow I can say I had my fun.... What I will say is you only live once, and if your earning it without pushing your finances too much just try whatever floats your boat at the moment, and if you get bored just sell it move on and possibly loose some dosh but don't look back.

That is STUNNING. Think I would live in that.

Is it an early 8 or a 7 with and 8 front end? A rare 52 plate 8 if it is.

100% agree with all that is said

mine was 370/390 at 1.4bar on standard turbo td05 16g and standard 510cc injectors...had a mines ecu..

at 1270kg it was a mad road car... so a 600bhp e3 will be fooking insane!!

Thanks did like that one and yes well spotted it was a 7 with 8 and 9 bolt on's, running 400/400.

This was the 8 I had running similar spec and power. But it Always had an annoying resonance from the drive train/prop as a result of balancing shaft being removed.

Very nice to drive, but felt a bit slow. Think i was expecting a bit more.

Very good power delivery at first, hardly any lag. It was a standard car, so hard to compare with mine.

If i didn't have my car i'd be very tempted, but wouldn't get rid of mine and replace it with one.

A telling point is how many people have Impreza's, change to an Evo, then come back to Impreza's again.

Seems to be quite a common thing.

After taking the STi for a spirited drive yesterday I'm happy to be back in a Subaru... I don't think there's much in it performance wise when there roughly the same power

I'm defo a culprit but to be honest I'm a huge fan of both. As all round cars.

Can't beat a turbo charged, 4 wheel drive saloon derived from a rally car that you can drive around with all the family in the back.

Subaru, by far, has the best sound and mitsubishi has the aggression so win win all round I say......
