Default THE Dashcam thread

In advance, apologies for the lousy segment on Radio 4...

Yesterday evening approx 19:30 BST - My dashcam captured footage of a road traffic incident whereby a Stagecoach 136 bus LX55 BEO crashed in to rear of the Vauxhall Corsa, forcing it into oncoming traffic where it strikes the rear quarter of the Ford Focus.

Geographical location in StreetView http://tinyurl.com/136busOOPS

As a witness I made my details available to the Police, to pass on to the parties involved, the two lady drivers as you can see removed themselves from their damaged vehicles.

The cam I have is very discreet and is called E-Prance Mini 0805

I got mine via Amazon, and it did take a while to come, but for £79 that I got it for, I am pleased with it. Currently £78 for exact same spec with gps http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...QH7H8B6WHQBKJZ

I've never had a problem with it not working, though someone on this thread has had issues with a similar one.

I opted for this model after watching Techmoan's review of the earlier 0803, the 0805 obviously being the improved version (heat dissipation etc) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LWOq62cY6U

It took me ages to commit to buying one cam over another watching many in-depth TECHMOAN youtube reviews and as stated I opted for a mini 0805 in the end and not long after it got fitted [Circa March], as is sods law the Youtube mailer emailed me about a new vid on TECHMOAN channel

K1S - The First Front & Rear 1080p Hidden Recorder Car Dash Cam - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lt7lhKSwWcI

Looked really good but at the time it was yet to be available here, but now you can get it from eBay, IIRC £220 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3313980069...830&rmvSB=true

k1s would make SD card removal and refit so much more convenient for me, and the rear facing cam means it'd have recorded the Policeman approaching my car from post 1 on this thread so you'd know why I'd repeated myself yet another time .

TIPS

I'd always by micro sd cards that are class 10 and from Kingston because on many of their products they offer lifetime guarantee

Never buy cards from randoms on eBay / Amazon as their are too many fake cards out there pretending to be fast high capacity Sandisk ones for example from dodgy sellers. Always go for reputable sellers, it's not worth the agro.

Great forum http://forum.dashcamtalk.com (though it seems to be down right now)

In differentiating between 'dashcams' and action cams (like GoPro) before creating this thread, if anyone has a dashcam and has caught any interesting footage or has any personal experience with one or any other tips then feel free to chime in on this thread.

Mine is the Mini 0805

Here's Techmoan's review of the Mini 0806, with polarising filter option.

As per post #1

last summer my cam caught an accident where a Bus punted a Corsa that was waiting to turn right (at a poorly positioned angle) in to an oncoming vehicle. Please ignore the absolute TOSS radio 4 were broadcasting at the time.

https://youtu.be/zPFSMBdZJCQ?t=1m20s

Fri 28th Aug 2015 evening approx 19:30 BST

Bromley road (A21) near junction of Daneswood Avenue (on the right) :

My dashcam captured footage of a road traffic incident whereby a Stagecoach 136 bus LX55 BEO crashed in to rear of the Vauxhall Corsa, forcing it into oncoming traffic where it strikes the rear quarter of the Ford Focus.

Geographical location in StreetView http://tinyurl.com/136busOOPS

As a witness I made my details available to the Police, to pass on to the parties involved, the two lady drivers as you can see removed themselves from their damaged vehicles.

Yesterday I received a letter from the Met:

So it seems the poor Focus (I think) driver was actually uninsured and there for deserves no sympathy... Initials S.M.

R.H. the other party who got done for due care, has apparently got an Iranian sounding name* so perhaps was the bus driver rather than Sri-Lanken looking ladty who had been in the Corsa which was smashed in both ends.

*According to two of my colleagues...

Default THE Dashcam thread

I had an accident just before Christmas. Trundling along the m25 in a 50 zone when a Romanian Lorry decided to side swipe me. I have a möbius.

Sent the footage to my insurance company and other side admitted full responsibility when they saw the vid.

Well worth the £60. Wouldn't drive without one now

Yeah, I'd have said the same!

Probably worth noting those who don't like a bit of language should avoid watching the video... or have the sound down.

The recording was good in the conditions I thought.

Lick suction cup and stick on windscreen. Plug other end in cigarette lighter 👍

Default THE Dashcam thread

That was a little over simplified. I did have to download some software to use to tell it to turn on every time it gets power (so I don't have to remember to turn it on every time).

Yes definitely. I expected it to drag on for months, especially as it was a Romanian driver and insurance and they were using a translator. As soon as my insurance co saw the vid they sent it on to the other insurer saying they were completely at fault.

My insurance co did a full geometry test on the car and luckily it was straight and only panel and wheel damage and it was repaired quickly and in my opinion very well.
