Default Oil level
Good afternoon!

I checked my oil level today and it's on the L (low) mark. Obviously needs topping up but it has an oil cooler on it. So, do I top it up as normal or do I put more in to allow it to go through the cooler? I've no idea if it's open all the time or thermostatically controlled and if it is, what temp it is set at. Apologies if that's too vague for a specific answer, I'm hoping I just top up as usual.

Top up to the full mark and after a drive or two check the level and see if it needs more. I don't run a cooler but obviously oil will sit in the cooler and lines so a little more is probably needed compared to standard.

Cooler will open about 80c if it's thermostatic
As for oil level checking , park on a level place and leave a good couple of hours or over night as avac's heads hide oil if done after a drive

It was stone cold and on flat ground so should be accurate. Thanks for your help mate

Is it only me that gets a different reading on one side of the dipstick compared to the otherside ?

On another note dry sump how does it work and where does the engine oil sit when car not in use .

Fill up until it just starts to pour out the top of the oil filler tube, guaranteed to have enough then.

(Please nobody ever do this...)

Some in the engine, tubes ,pump and most in the tank

no, mine does that too. One side was high, the other was low!
