computer ?

Techy advice required please.

My nephew has just purchased an Acer Revo, now the Revo does not have an onboard optical device of any description!

He is using Sky Broadband and although he will be able to connect via wifi ok to get on the net, he will not be able to get the included Nesmcafee internet security from the supplied disc to the Revo!!

Is there anyway to do this using our Dell Laptop to connect to the Revo, as a sort of external drive and if so whats the easiest way of doing it?

Hope that all makes sense, any help greatly received

The easiest way, is to copy the CD to an external USB disk drive / or a large enough USB dongle.

If you've not got use of one of the above. Then you can network both the Laptop and Acer together via the router conenction, wired or wireless (depends on your Sky router, not sure what you get with Sky) and share the optical driver on the Laptop.

Both PC's should be able to see each other in the Network Neighbourhood (so long as they're the same workgroup) and if the optical drive is shared, then you should be able to see it when exploring from the Acer.

Another option would be to get hold of an Ethernet Crossover cable, this will allow you to conenct the computer directly without the need for a router/switch.

Can't you just download the appropriate Macafee app from the net straight onto the Acer?

Copied files from the Sky disc to flash drive and loaded it all from that.

Got thinking it was going to be mega difficult, however turned out easy peasy .
