The SLaG gets a spruce up
While everyone was away at various meets. It was the best time to get the SLaG properly cleaned for the first time since new.
So with another keen pair of hands on board we started what turned out to be a 10 and a half hour loving session on the Scooby So, this is how it looked when we pulled up at the factory in Crowborough on Saturday morning. Not too dirty really at first glance, but in truth a LOT dirtier than it looks!!! First stage, get all of the stickers and badges off. followed by, a nice long soak in a blanket of snowfoam. followed by, a final glue and tree sap removal and a rinse, then it's time for a clay bar. While I am finishing the clay bar and giving a final rinse, Martyn sets about the wheels.... ..... before ..... after I then set to the engine while the compound and polish is done. Sorry, got too busy at this point and didn't stop for photos of this bit This is before the engine bay was spruced though... After this came the Cherry Glaze and the wax while I buffed the exhaust within an inch of it's life. Followed up with a deep glass and black trim clean. It was then time to put back the new stickers. Finally, after a just a few hours of toil and then giving Martyns scoob a quick snowfoam and rinse, we grabbed a couple of quick shots before we had to run away for a night out. Then we ran away for beers and a big old Chinese feast |

Yes, bonnet hinges are now on the list. I have never cleaned the "Oily Bits" before so it was never high on my priority list. But now having done it once, my priority will be to get it tidied up and looking blingy under the hood I am surprised just how enjoyable it all was. I had a brilliant day and a great laugh along the way |

The problem with going FMIC is you really want to take the front number plate off. But it looked awful without anything on it. So having the sticky plate on the bonnet it was just a case of creating something to fit over the old plate position. It's just some 3mm thick Aluminium, but I think it does the job pretty well |

Great looking car Mr Worzel sir, do prefer the look with scoop back on imho |

Cheers all for the kind comments
Rich, the yob nicking the Martyns car is a local villain, Robbin Hoody. The scoobs the daily driver again now, so not much chance of going under wraps. Ian, tell me about it. Like I said earlier though, I actually really enjoyed doing it, so it's given me a taste for it. Bolesroor, funnily enough, I got the replacement bonnet grill back from RCM today. And I really think I don't want to put it back on. I like it with the scoop back on there too. There may be a Carbon Bonnet Grill in the for sale section very soon |

Looking good! - if you just snowfoam regularly you'll find it really easy to keep clean - did you glaze with a DA or rotary?
If you could bring the RCM grille to a meet sometime I''d like to see if it's possible to fit one to my Bug, nobody makes them for the bugs :'(

Cheers again lads
Nige, yes, that's the spare 3D badge I bought at the Ring last year. I like the badgeing now too, thats the advantage of removing it completely, putting it back exactly how you want it Martyn, I reckon they all believe we used Autoglym too In fairness we did use the tar remover and the metal polish for the exhaust Steve, no, got rid of the Golf, Laura is now driving the ST. It was far too much to keep 3 cars going really. Insurance, tax, fuel, servicing etc was just costing far too much. Nick, yes mate, no problem, I will bring along somewhere for you to have a look at. Greg............................. maybe............................. |

Amazing how a car can brush up with just a little/lot of TLC. Nice job, and 2nd the notion of keeping the scoop on. I think it looks better/right and more aggresive.

It's only after doing something like this that I realised just how "average" it looked before. One full day like that, followed by regular love sesh's should keep it looking better. Yep, I agree about the scoop. I can't see me putting the grill back on now. |

Looks stunning mate, loving the new badge too, did you only use autoglym products? Wheels came up really good too, did you use any sealent on them? Only ask as your going to the ring soon so your wheels are gonna take abit of a hammering brake dust wise.

We didn't use Atoglym apart from tar remover for some tree sap removal at the start of the day and metal polish for the back box. That was all a bit of a jest. Wheels were sealed mate, so hopefully shouldn't be a problem. |

Know what you mean with using it as a daily again. I was seriously toying with getting something to use for work, but when you add it all up, its mad running two for me and the mrs car. Also, the car runs better being used daily anyway.
