10W40 Part Synthetic, it's whats recommended by Subaru so good enough for me.

I put Mobil 1 Motorsport (not the 0W40 stuff, something like 15W40) Fully Synthetic in mine for 2 weeks and took it back out as cold starts sounded like a bag of nails.
Engine had only done 18,000 miles and has now done 50,000 (almost).

IMHO alot of the fully syth talk is pub talk.
if car is doing heavy track work then yes spend the money, otherwise stick with £15-£20 part synth as recommended by Subaru and change at least every 6,000 miles

Got to agree with Scott on this one and as mine has 145k on it now and from all the service bills it's only ever had semi-syn 10w40 in it,thats what i am going to stick with

Always a good one this one. So many different opinions on it and always an interesting read.

Bob Rawle (for those who don't know, he is a mapping legend, just like our very own Silver Surfer ) says exactly what Scott says about fully synthetic being a load of pub talk. He swears by Shell Helix Ultra (10W40 from memory ) which he says give great pressure and runs at a really good temperature with no issues. And he uses it in all of his cars, including his 600bhp "Drag Scoob" and his GT3.

I wondered when this would get smutty! I prefer Johnsons "Old Tucker Budge" myself as it clears all the dips and valleys and leaves the area clean shaven.

Now I know Bob Rawle used to recommend Castrol RS 10/60, and that is what I have been using. Any comments on this oil?
