Tyres - brands to buy and avoid

Hey Guys, I'd like to buy new tyres for my WRX as when I purchased the car it just had budgets on and it doesn't seem to be gripping the road too good.

Any tips on a good make I should get or ones to avoid please?

Need the tyres for every day road use.

I seem to find eagle f1's work well or Dunlop maxxx sport - but you will find everyone has their own opinion and it also depends on ur budget - there are a few posts about tyres under wheel and tyre section

Yep, so many opinions on this topic

Are you happy to buy the tyres online then have them fitted? Otherwise you're limited to whatever your local tyre place has on the shelf.

Not sure on the hawk wrx tyre sizes but i'm guessing 215/45/17 or 225/45/17? If that's the case, I'd go Vredestein Sessantas - superb tyre for the money

I'm running falken 452 tyres all round , grip is superb as we have some nice twisty roads up here to try them out .

Been impressed with these on Mrs Stig's wagon.

Next up for the Foz will be a set of Eagle F1s or Vredestein Vorti, depending upon reviews of the latter.

I don't know anyone who has tried them yet, but as they're the evolution of the Ultrac Sessantas, I would hope they would be up to muster!

There's definitely a case of paying more for a 'brand' name in tyres, just like with many other products. Doesn't mean that the lesser names always have an inferior product

I run Yoko's ad08's which are good but biased more towards summer.

The old fella has tried alot of rubber on the scoob.

Didn't give the Vreds a chance as didn't like them from the start (I believe Anger had those)

As a passenger my arsometer says the Goodyear F1 and that is what I will be putting on my car next when the P Zero Rosso's have had their day.

I run Goodyear eagle F1 Asymetric 2's for wet track/road and toyo 888s for dry track, I have not seen anything to make me want to change that
My last set of Goodyears managed 20k miles and 3 trackdays including 20 odd laps of Spa in damp to dry conditions very predictable with good feel, it took them 5 dry laps to start going off! that's dam good for a road tyre.

Swap them front to back every 5k miles if you can to even the wear out.

I would NEVER fit budget tyres to a performance car.. seeing as the biggest performance gains from a driving perspective are in the tyre!

That`s me done for then as I`ll be worn out before the tyre on the mileage I do in the blob

Plan to go for Goodyear eagle F1 Asymetric 2's this year...hopefully?

I have to give another vote for Hankook Ventus V12's on a newage for a tyre that has good wet performance as well as dry, gets decent wear, and good performance for fast road/daily commuting. Can often be found for a good price.

Or the Vredsteins if you can get them in 215 45 17. I didn't see Sessanta in that size.

Either of those two if you are looking to keep the cost down, and you can certainly entertain something more expensive like the others have listed which are all very good, but for every day road use I would not think this is necessary.

Blackcircles are a good site for finding them for a fitted price- I think Ventus V12 are 82 fitted a corner, or obviously order on tyreleader, cam skill, etc. Sometimes you can even get shops to match online pricing.

For a classic I would consider something else, or if I was on track certainly would consider some of the other options, but the above should suit you well.

I just got my car and it had a full set of Toyo Proxies. Little bit of shoulder wear so I will need to think about something new. I always loved the idea of them but I feel like the scoob needs something a little less trackday and a little more "all weather"

We tolerated them on my wife's car for exactly that reason, they had life in them.

I was glad to see the back of them though!

I have problems with traction in the wet no matter what tyre I've got lol, but having said that they are supposed to be very good in the wet as well
