yes only one cam wheel, one with the cam sensor over it.. passenger side inlet cam.

They are all marked but yes it is possible to do that.

Yes simon already said about cam & injector plugs mixed up. Like you say though it could be very possible that the cam sprocket could be in the wrong position. The inlet & exhaust on the n/s are identical apart from the pick ups on the back.

Time to take those Cam covers off again then Greig and check the Cam wheel

Simon, is the pick-up easy to spot on the wheel...probably a bit more obviouse then my old RS1600i that just had a slightly larger tooth on the Flywheel.

Easy to spot, if they are plastic sprockets they will have metal pick ups on the back if they are metal they will have pick ups at various intervals on the back.

Morning technical help
have checked the cam sprockets, all right inlet and ex correct
have 3 plastic wheels and the inlet on the cam with sensor is metal with lumps on the back pick ups?

Got dads mate having a quick look this afternoon
he's a auto sparky, but if no joy then can I still take you up on the offer for next week? Thanks for all your help

Dads mate has traced it through, appears to be cam shaft sensor so will order a brand new one today and fingers crossed

Yes really apriciate all the help, after all the trouble I've had with the engine build from before to finally Finnish it and it not to start, felt like giving up!

I thought you had tried the sensor ?
12V pulse from the injector connector wouldn't of helped it much.

Mate you must be pulling your hair out! Hope things work out. Now sounds like you may have to ask one of the mappers to investigate.

I doubt it.
I could imagine the injector pulse damaging the Cam sensor, becuase the ECU would be sending out a 12v pulse to fire the injector, or it has 12V applied and the firing is done on the negative side. Therefore potentially damaging the sensor.

But the injector that the cam sensor connector was attached too would of done nothing to induce anything back into the ECU.

Happy days
after replacing cam and crank sensors cam and crank pulleys still no joy so stripped it all back down,
rebuilt it all and it lives once again
so nearly scrapped it after 18 months of probs and
shed loads of cash!

I'll be rebuilding the rest of the car at the weekend
then mot and orginize a running in map.

Think it was. A wiring issue with the three connectors that do injectors and cam shaft sensor.
Can take the car apart with my eyes shut now!!
Will be nice to drive it again after nearly 2 years

Was it the connector blocks by the batery then ?
The ones you disconnect to remove the manifold and ancillaries from the block/heads.
