Default carbon canister

Would i have any problems if i remove my carbon canister on my99 turbo 2000?

ive seen some people on various forums say theres no problem removing it, and others complain of a petrol smell when they do remove it.
i suspect if you spend a lot of time in traffic, you may smell petrol, if not, then you may be ok.
all i can suggest is loop it out but dont remove it and see how you go. if you dont smell petrol fumes, then take it out alltogether
